[Problem] Unable to launch NS2

I was able to play the NS2 Engine test without any problems yesterday (started playing it then, had no net connection before) and now if I run steam and then run NS2 either via steam or launch the exe directly, I get the following error:

Please check that the Steam client is running locally.<!--c2--></div><!--ec2-->

Thing is, Steam IS running flawlessly. I am not sure, if it has to do with the fact, that I use my iPhone for tethering and that I only have a 56k modem connection right now, but it worked with the same set up yesterday...flawlessly.

Any ideas?

Could be a steam update issue? Try restarting steam.

I fixed it by re-installing NS2. The steam_appid.txt file was borked somehow. it had 2 lines of text and not only one and the first line was only 0 and the second one had gibberish text....maybe because i added the exe files to steam and launched it from there...i dunno...now it works again.

I had trouble with this myself. The problem was that I was running the Launch Pad from a shortcut and for some reason, it couldn't find Steam. Launching it directly from the NS2 folder fixes things. Obviously, I think the devs need to look at how the app paths are set. There are several issues with the other programs as well if not run properly.
