Technically, the egg.

Dinosaurs were hatched from eggs, which were in fact large reptiles of the sort. The egg came first and eventually, chickens evolved from the large birds of the period, over time.

I was just talking about this with some friends and we all agreed, the egg came first. :P

I actually wrote a paper for school describing how the Universe came to be... with cantaloupes... interesting to read.
