GoldSrc Recording

Laggy and no audio
So when I play back my demo file it runs just fine. Nice and smooth, people are talking, etc etc.

However, when I use the startmovie command my demo becomes very laggy and slow. I expected this to happen. However, what I did not expect was that when I tried to put the images it made together with VirtualDub, the video came out laggy, and there was never an audio file made.

Is there a tutorial for getting the best movie quality with using the GoldSrc recorder?

you sure you set the fps parameter to something acceptable?

    I did startmovie demoname 30

I figured 30 fps would be reasonable. Should I make it higher or something?

Hmm, seems about right... I read something about host_framerate... Other then that I can't seem to find anything on laggy demo's :/

I also did host_framerate 30. But I think that's just for source recording.

It's been a long time since I've done this, but I am fairly certain the recorder in the engine does not do audio.

This is why you need to use something like Wegame (free) or Fraps (paid) to do it. Google is your friend :)

Just how bad do these hit fps?

The thing about the in-game recorder is that it doesn't effect fps at all for me.

In Fraps you can set the minimum FPS, I normally use 30 FPS and it remains quite constant (TF2 @ 1650x1080 devided by 2). But have tried 60FPS as well (for slowmotion), which jumped between 30 and 60...
