Tricks Of The Trade:marines

Hey I decided to post some of the tricks ive learned over Playing NS since release that not everyone seems aware of. Some are intresting quirks, others are just basic fighting tactics but all of them can be used to improve your gameplay Enjoy!

-Some vents and other objects in the game can be "welded" shut, open or otherwise interacted with, There is an icon associated with this

-The Pistol Does more damage, and is more accurate than the LMG but only carries 10 shot clips, Make them count and they can do serious damage!

-An Armory will not dispense ammo when its upgrading

-Welders can repair Armor Extremely fast USE THEM FOR THAT it will guarentee that heavy armor lasts about 10x as long as it normally would (currently this is the ONLY way to fix armor as marines, commanders can not directly heal armor)

-Welders also are great at killing buildings and will destroy webs

-An observitory prevents aliens from cloaking in its raidus

-Aliens can use phase gates as well as Marines

-If you find your gaining an advantage during a game but suddenly those Fades come out of nowhere and start destroying your outposts a great way to kill them is to Hide behind a wall next to the corridor they are attacking from. When they Run out and slash the base/fire acid rockets right around the corner wait till they have fired about 4/5 rockets or start retreating, when this happens Jump out and go fully automatic in their face with what ever weapon you have and Chase them down, 70% of the time they will die and the other 29% they retreat in a badly weakend state(1% you )

-When aliens rush you at the start Note what direction they come from, their hive is probably in the same location

-Play from the commanders chair at least once, This helps you A LOT in understanding game mechanics and how hard it is to do some things at the beginning

-look up

-Getting more ammunition from an armoy is faster than reloading a gun and doesnt require you to be incapable of firing

Commanders:

-Not every Resource node needs a turret factory and 5 towers Just keep on the pressure and they will be too busy defending to hunt RT's

-Pressing space bar jumps to a marine who has made a request or any alert that has announced itself

-A marine that respawns costs 1 RP so if your troops die repetedly you ARE losing some cash even if they arent getting any guns

-More infantry portals=faster respawn rate

-Marines know how to play the game too,If someone requests a Turret factory at a location You are obligated to at least examine if the suggestion has any merrit

-Commanders can open doors/raise lower elevators and interact with buttons ect.

-Hives show up on motion tracking all the time

Thats all i can think of for now! maybe ill update it as i think of more tricks, Oh yeah and if your playing against me That chuckle means drop your gun and prepare to die

Couple fo things that you might want to add:

1: If your commander researches armor make sure to get someone to use a welder on you after you spawn. You always start with 50 armor.

2: Trick the aliens. I've noticed that some aliens go through the portals instead of destroying them right away. Place two portals and surround one iwth some turrets/marines with HMG's. Watch that cocky onos die!

3: For the love of god don't move around alone! The easiest way to die is to just walk around without someone watching you back.

4: Cover your team while they build. I see a TON of un-nessicary deaths at the start of a game because no-one is covering the enterances when the sulks rush.

5: Check up on your welded vents! They can be destroyed and there's nothing worse than getting killed for a side that you thought secured.

6: Get motion tracking! Half of the fight against the aliens at the start is simply finding those hiding sulks.

7: If the commander gives you a weapon/armor, don't go play Mr. Comando. You'd just be wasting resources.

8:If you think you saw an alien lurking In a vent, look up. They love luring marines into traps while the one on the ceiling drops onto you.

    Hope this helps.

You research motion detection at an obsevatory, it makes all moving aliens appear with circles like hive sight as long as you have at least one observatory. After you spend 45 to research it you have it for the rest of the game.

I use scanner sweep (which I can't help calling comsat still when in the chair) like a madman any time I have a good resource pool going. Marines spending their attention building? Comsat the area just to make sure nothing is coming nearby and warn them to quit building when there is. Marines pushing a new area? Comsat a few areas and tell them everything that is in the room, where and what. Just last game the and lerks kept trying to hide on roofs to pounce my marines as I screamed over the mic to look up. I wonder if the aliens ever figured out the corrolation between those blue pulses and the psychic powers of my marines to blow them away as soon as they cleared the doorway . Occassionally I'll just comsat the blips running around just to get a better idea what they have and where.

Assuming I'm not running broke, I must use 200-300 comsats over the course of a game . I'm almost as much a fanatic about comsat as I am about throwing down 5-10 medpacks any time marines are fighting in bulk. If I've got nothing else to do, there's just no reason not to throw it out. 1 RP a sweep and 2 for life, oh bestill my miserly heart

Yep, how much can we insist on marines staying together?

But there is a very special relationship with the marines in this game.

Your commander depends on you...and you depend on your commander

If one doesnt care about the other, well, you better start trying to find a way out of there fast!

    So what that means is:

    - Marines, if your commander gives you a waypoint please go to it.
    - Marines, if your commander gives you something to build please build it.
    - Commander, make sure your guys have orders, otherwise tell them to stay put.
    - Commander, your privates need ammo and health to survive, dont hesistate to drop some if the ressources permit.
    - probly more things but im just tired.

Something i hate seeing as a commander...i really really do...i mean it:

n00bblaster!: i want a bigger gun, command can i have a bigger gun?
Commander: no we cant afford it.

A VOTE HAS BEEN INITIATED TO KICK THE COMMANDER

You know as a marine....you can see the number of ressources available on your team.

So if a commander has to choose between giving you a shotgun and putting a turret for defense, i think the later choice is better, especially since most of the people you give big guns to just go running off and get killed in under 5 seconds.

So here are the costs of the weapons so you dumbos can do the math before you ask for a bigger gun:

    Welder: 10
    Shotgun : 20
    HMG: 23
GRENADE LAUNCHER ( god knows youve made me mad whining for this one) : 33

33....thats a turret factory and a couple of ammo and healing packs...

So BEFORE you ask for anything...please....please look at the ressource panel and ask yourself: can the commander afford it just for me?.

Btw thats true for people asking for turrets and buildings too:

    turret : 19
    Factory : 25
    Ressource collector : 22

    costly....

Voila, i dont mean to rant or anything, i think its just happening more and more and that you marines have to understand that as a commander, you have priorities and its for the good of the team.
