The story of Natural Selection

So I've had a quick look around (so apologies if it's anywhere I haven't seen yet) - but I'm curious if a developer could enlighten me as to whether or not there is a genuine story behind Natural Selection. I found it interesting to see people's new map developments, but was curious if there was a defined story or lore behind Natural Selection as it may influence design choices in maps or models from a developer perspective.

I understand the basic premise, Marines vs Aliens, but how did this conflict actually begin? Were the marines snooping around the galaxy and bumped into other intelligent life? Was it the result of experimentation and mutation? Was it more-so an invasion by the Kharaa? I think it would be interesting to get some basic storyline perspective from an official developer, as it may inspire game design or atmosphere to maps, but also just because I find the conflict itself intriguing.

Apologies if the answer is incredibly obvious, like I said I only had a quick look around.

Thats really funny, all the time I spent in the first NS, and I never ever read the story. That was a great read, and they really have some great background story there. Should consider writing a book in that style.

Get a copy of Lilly C.A.T. - I think that fits very well with this game, even if Lilly draws heavily on the MegaCorp theme from the aliens universe.
