I have a bunch of videos and songs that I want to put up on a website so people can just play them with no downloading. Youtube won't work for the video since most will be over 10 minutes (yes, legal stuff). I hear Vimeo has a super strict policy too. I can host them on my own server but I need an easy way to convert them all into a nice format to put on the web. Anyone know of an easy way?

And maybe the program can do the same thing, but I would like to throw up a lot of songs with the same intent. Suggestions welcome!

For videos, you can convert them using AVS video converter here.

Then you`ll have to use an embedded video player.

For audio, there are many free embedded audio player that you can use (like the one on my website in my signature.)
Your best bet is to use 128kbps mp3s as they will be easily downloaded by people.

In any way, the users cannot hear the audio files or view the videos without downloading the content. I`m not sure about the best format you should use for videos though.

For embedding video into your site you can use Flowplayer and theres a few tutorials for encoding video on their site. A nice open source way seems to be using FFMPEG. Not sure about audio but there are open sauce embedable audio players like Pipi said above.

MP4Cam2AVI_v2.83 simply makes avi containers to make them readable in virtualdub, then use virtualdub (or >insert video editing program here<) to encode them back into whatever smaller format you want. Or is this not the problem :P

Tycho should have an answer to this, if he still lurks.
