My biggest gripe with the editor

This thing is way too easy to make good looking maps on. We're going to end up with a million n00bs producing beautiful worlds for this game and I am certainly upset about this prospect. For shame UWE!

Even a non-mapper like myself is able to make really fantastic sections of levels in almost no time. This is unacceptable.

    Yeah, frankly I'm pissed. I spent no more than 5 minutes and I had something that looked nice. whats the deal.

    Making a good looking map and a map that plays well are two different things! To each his own, we'll see.

    Oh also, I showed my friends who are just about done with their levelediting projects in Hammer.
    They were very angry after have seen what I tossed up in like 2minutes.

    The prospect of making an L4D2 campaign and an Unreal 3 map after toying with Spark makes me want to gouge out my eyes and curl up into a ball.

    was up until 3am playing with this.. by no means a good mapper, in fact im ###### at everything that requires some form of creative vision!
    However ive made a few good looking rooms, albeit just a room or two :). Now stuck at work for 7 hours, guess what ill be doing when i get home! (if i dont fall asleep when i get there). Time to find and implement these transparent crate props im seeing everywhere, also found the stairs props etc as i was walking out the door to work (was late because of this too haha)

    make your unique well shaped map with smooth lightning and crazy complex geometry, and be happy that about the small details (which give a level the final touch) is already taken care of for you.

    I really dont get your point. How can you complain about an editor and say its too good? I understand the opposite, but this....

    I truly hope thats not an honest opinion from anyone. Tools are simply a way for an artist to express their vision. If someone who is newer to mapping can make a better map than an experienced mapper because they have easier to use tools, that only shows they are more creative and talented.

    better be sarcastic. Either way, he brought up a good point. Just means that you can (you better) spend more of your creativity, time and consideration into map creativity, innovation, and how it plays and flows, instead of slaving hours upon hours just to make that one room "look cool" >.>
