More details no, but there will be light occlusion, volumetric lights, stuff like that.

I imagine shadows will render from further away, as there will be more model/brush occlusion and optimization.

Well, you'll have to learn how 3d modeling works as i'm learning 3d mapping.. but spark is like an hybrid of both and that's how lightning is rendered anyhow.

Maybe you should put a thread in the suggestion forum for some "partial" baked shadow or something but I doubt they'll make that since they clearly said the engine is going to render all lights in real-time.. although i'm not sure at which extent can lightning occlusion work but I doubt it could complement this .. "issue"

Anyways, we're a bit offtopic right now it's the <post your screens> thread not the <how the engine works> one haha !

Yeah much better Chuck, good work !

I see the marines trying to use the catwalks, lerks flying, skulks leaping and jetpackers haha !

The lightning is better too, only thing about it is the floodlight. I would use spotlights instead of omnis. It shouldn't cast shadows on itself and the intensity is a bit high too.

Second thing (that's only esthetically) is the fan at the far end of the tunnel that stands out a bit too much, maybe make it bigger and make 2 of them and put some grill in front of them.. just suggesting !

Yeah it's true eh? Although, that is the actual "tram support" prop.

Gotta trust Bob the builder on that one, haha ! You should add 45 angled beams to it or something ;)

I like the yellow trim...Is that a secondary route? Seems a little small for a primary pathway (and rectangular)
  • TephraTephra Join Date: 2010-01-17 Member: 70193Members
looks like a primary pathway to me, it's not our fault that the official Primary route dimensions are so small.... I really don't understand why they asked for the primary routes to be so cramped.
  • PipiPipi Join Date: 2009-12-09 Member: 69550Members
It's a primary route and more than that it's a split up double node room.

It's not finished, I was thinking of raising the ceiling a bit so there can be a bit of fighting opportunities on the alien side.

Yes, it's a bit rectangular but I felt it like that, seems fine to me so far. As for the mapping guidelines, I don't think I'll be following every thing so strictly but I assume that the dimensions were just a minimum.
  • monopolowamonopolowa Join Date: 2004-05-23 Member: 28839Members
Oh, rectangular is fine, I just meant to suggest that rectangular rooms and halls work better for small areas (secondary routes)

That new Color Grading Entity is alright. Real sensitive though! Values have to be 0.00 to 1.00 (Start with 0.01 on Brightness / Contrast)

color grading is going to be so bad for the look of the game. People will crank the contrast and give it the washed out blown highlight look of movies, totally amateur :(

thats not very nice. Look what happens to games or movies when you use color grading like an amateur:
    <a href="http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/808/808266/resident-evil-5-20070726113942790.jpg" target="_blank">http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/...26113942790.jpg</a>
    <a href="http://www6.incrysis.com/screenshots/naturefinalobn9.jpg" target="_blank">http://www6.incrysis.com/screenshots/naturefinalobn9.jpg</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coypgsWo4Rg&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coypgsWo4Rg...feature=related</a>
    <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaskolmE944&feature=related" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaskolmE944...feature=related</a>

Color grading works for making static scenes look nice for screenshots but otherwise it looks awful. I get the color shift, that can be a neat effect like when entering a room or something to give it a slight change in look but not to turn the whole thing blue (eg: the video clips I provided). Unfortunately much of the time these image effects look awful because they are static and they are overdone. Sorry, I like having more than 256 colors on my screen, and I like having proper color balance. Its a really bad gimmick... people are so used to relatively good looking images that when they see these amateur color balance mistakes they think its cool when its not.
