I'll give it a shot once Im done. 85% right now. I've had 2 people they got that error. I'll try it without the fix first, and then using the fix. Thanks for the link :)

Thanks Comprox. I was trying to find the fix myself but was getting lost in the tech talk. Works fine now.

Comprox - may I suggest a sticky for this thread? I think a lot of people will run into this one.

I don't know if UWE or Microsoft has written the error-text, but there's a spelling-mistake in german translation: "Anwenungskonfiguration" ;)

Definitely sticky this thread; it was taking me awhile to figure out what was wrong.

There's been enough requests, so I'll sticky this.

Spawn of Chaos ... try this:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->To extract files from a .msi file at the command line, type:

    msiexec /a PathToMSIFile /qb TARGETDIR=DirectoryToExtractTo

For example, to extract files from f:\zenworks\zfdagent.msi into c:\zfd701 you would type:

    msiexec /a f:\zenworks\zfdagent.msi /qb TARGETDIR=c:\zfd701

The destination directory does not need to exist prior to running this command.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Ooh. Sounds fun. XD

    <b>Edit:</b>

Crap. The file is an EXE that extracts to a temporary file then runs the installer. Now what?!

I am getting that error, and unfortunately, that fix is doing nothing for me :( I tried the 2005 redist, it didn't work, tried the 2008 redist, and it didn't work, so now I have no idea how to fix this.

The error I get from the log is:

Activation context generation failed for "E:\Games\NS2 Spark\Natural Selection 2\Editor.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4053" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

I don't know what sxstrace is, but it doesn't do anything when I try to run it. Any thoughts?

**EDIT** Disregard this post, I reinstalled the editor, and it is behaving itself now :D

"This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem." - is also fixed by the ATL Security Update link given.

What version of Windows are you running? Does c:\windows\system32\advpack.dll exist on your machine?
