Winning As A Marine Commander

Comments on winning strats alreadyposted
Ok, so I had a chance to put into effect (on a public server) the strategies outlined elsewhere. My team, after playing with them a while, had a high count of total morons, but they managed to obey orders enough that I could do what needed to be done.

Here's approximately the build order I used (I was playing on eclipse, but this can be adapted to any map):

1. built 2 spawn points at base. Built turret factory at base. built armory at base. built one turret at base, ran out of resources.

2. told my men to scout out the hives. they found a hive at the eclipse command. I rushed a bunch of people all the way across the map to maintainance. Built resource tower, turret factory and 3 turrets at maintainance hive.

3. Moved men to south loop (node closest to maintainance). Built and defended node with 4 turrets. Moved back to maintainance and built 3 more turrets.

4. Horseshoe (second closest node to maintainance) was occupied at that time so I had my men suicide attack it. which took a while because they don't understand that they can die -- it doesn't matter that much, so I built 4 more turrets at base.

5. Built and defended horseshoe with 4 turrets. Built an observatory and arms lab at base. Money is starting to flow in now. Built more turrets at southloop. Built prototype lab and upgraded armory and researched the "moving enemy" thing at observatory (forget the name ).

6. Researched armor. Then I got disconnected from server (I think it crashed or something, our pings were getting higher and higher). However, my plan was to reinforce maintainance (which was getting attacked at the time) with more turrets and outfit my guys with weapons and armor for a coordinated attack. By that time resources were around 200 and I was having trouble spending enough, so I think it would have been successful.

Two caveats, though. This was completely dependant on the fact that they didn't have a very strong rush at the beginning. If even half of their team had kept up pressure on my main base we couldn't have succeeded. Secondly, there was one fade by the time I got disconnected and he was decimating my men. I don't think it would have lasted once I started dropping HA and HMGs but that fade wasn't scared (and had no reason to be scared) of even 4 LMG marines. This is a huge problem because aliens can get second hive before marines research armor.

If the fades were nerfed (very slightly) this might help. A statistical analysis would clarify things. Anyone want to make a chart comparing damage/time of the fade and marines with various equipment?

Note: I posted it in here because of the comments on fade (dealing with balance). I thought if it was in the marine strategy forum it might get lost or something .

LOL, I've singlehandedly whupped a Fade's butt with a LMG, Pistol, and finaly, the knife.

It all depends on relative skill. Guy's been playing aliens/Fade since the release? He's gonna whupp butt. Otherwise, no.

It's all in what you know.

Well it's true my marines were pretty dumb, but 3 or 4 marines with LMGs should at least give a fade the Fear. Whenever I play alien I go fade with redemption, because I can then take on any number of LMGed marines. No Fear.
