<div class="IPBDescription">3rd class</div>Just as all RTS games are these days, they have 3 or more classes, i was wondering if people have thought about adding a different class. i know the balancing would be horrible, but it would certainly put NS on the map.

maybe as a mod?

or NS3

(I think by class he means teams)

I don't think theres much of a point of it in NS2. We have two unique sides as is. but for the sake of argument: can anyone think some something for a possible 3rd unique side?

You mean other than the third steriotypical "Extremely Technologically Advanced Aliens," ie Protoss, Predetors, etc?

don't forget they would need their own micro-unit as well (nanites, bacteria, midichlorians, etc.)

For the sake of fun without it ever likely being implemented:

Amidst an onslaught of unexpected kharaa infestation, the TSA were forced to abandon the salvage mission of outpost 3572; it was deemed a failure on all accounts except one: as they retreated from the station they were able to trigger the experimental weaponry that was salvaged - the Nanite Fusion Implode Array (N-FIAR). Although theoretically incomplete, the resulting destruction was enough to cause a temporal spacial collapse in which the local hivemind entity was destroyed.

However, these were marines taking orders from marines; none were versed in n-space string theory and the only scientist aboard had barely enough time to make any sense of the bits and pieces of theory that were found in the outpost's lab. Even if they had known that the weapon operated by collapsing the gravitational field of all nanites in the surrounding area, causing all matter in the field to coalesce into a temporal super-dense near-singularity, they still could not have predicted the results. Although the hivemind met complete obliteration, a new form of nano-entity had been created in the event: as the nanites coalesced with the bacterium of the kharaa the two were fused into a resultant organism that could rebuild itself with the speed and coordination of the nanites, and with all the sentience of the hivemind.
    The <u>Nanitheria</u> were born.

    Abilities
    ---------------
able to "recombine"/reintegrate against ballistic (marine) or maul-type (kharaa) damage
    innate regeneration
    interconnection with others (hivemind/sight)
able to dissolute and pass through small openings
can take on the likeness of a dead foe
attacks by "rigidizing" parts of itself into blunt/sharp weaponry,
or dislodges pieces of itself to be flung at enemies.
Structures are less damaged by the gravitational attacks of the siege cannon.
    upgrades:
assimilation cluster (improves cohesion, i.e. hivesight, being able to see enemies spotted by others)
adaptation cluster (improves adaption to environment, i.e. camoflauge/imitation)
integrity cluster (improves recombination and regenitive abilities)
singularity cluster (super-dense cluster producing a gravitational field that temporarily immobilizes/slows nearby players)

    Weaknesses
    -----------------
"recombining" after losing "integrity" slows down attack/movement speeds
"dislodging" projectiles to use against enemies temporarily decreases self-integrity (based on the mass of the projectile, i.e. can charge weapon)
    Susceptible to hostile nanites/bacterium:
small amount of damage while near infestation
Spore gas causes higher damage the longer spent engulfed
Increased damage taken from spit, healspray, and bile.
parasite and digestion slowly erodes integrity over time
Flame-thrower, Welder or nanite-launcher also does high damage

A parasite race which uses the marines and aliens as hosts...
A technologically advanced race using super weapons...
Cyborgs with rogue AI using nanite tech for fuel...
Mutant gene manipulation with excellent cellular regeneration...

Fairly typical trends, but I think the easiest addons will be AvA and MvM again.

the Janitors..... Every space station has those. They would be hostile towards marines and aliens. Marines because of their running around on the cleaned floors with their dirty combat boots, and they hate aliens because they leave their poop everywhere.... And that pesky infestation you have no idea how much cilit bang it needs to scrub it of the walls again.

    Meet the janitor....

    <img src="http://scrubs.mopnt.com/fun/personality/JANITOR.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />
guys.... what do you think you are doing here?
Intergallactic war against aliens my arse....
    Ive just mopped that floor...

    Abilities:
    removing dynamic infestation
    repairing broken lightsources
cleaning floors from corpses and blood
    unclog res nozzles
    creating slippery floor

    weapons:
    sulfuric acid bottle
    plunger
    cilit bang spray
    pipe wrench knife
    mop
    screwdriver
    slippery floor barrier
    caution wet floor sign

Actually, i'll tell ya, I don't think this would be too extremely hard to pull off provided you had a decent team of people..

As far as implementation itself, the fact that the devs made it moderately easy to code basically anything different for the
    game, and moe importantly:
The fact that they made both teams have a unified resource model.
This makes it most possible I think.
I really hope that NS2 will have user-created mods like this. Definitely one of
the reasons why I'm looking forward to it coming out..

OMG and completely different from the last post:

What if some marines had visited an alien planet some years back on like a scientific expedition. (you know
that would have happened) and we brought like some animals with us and they got infested from the alien life
on the planet. You actually could have scorpions... or alien-panthers..

I'd go for natural evolution of one of the blobs of gray goo (former planets now giant pools of nanites).
if billions and billions of nanites deconstruct each other to replicate their own programming something stronger is bound to rise from the process.

And with natural mutation and errors they can even change their programming.

The only way that this could be implemented would be to have certain maps feature.
    M vs. A
    M vs. ?
    M vs. M
    A vs. M
    A vs. ?
    A vs. A
    ? vs. ?
    It can't possibly be,
    ? vs. M. vs A

I like it! Of course, whichever side was further from the wormhole would have the advantage of resources coming in relatively faster because of relativistic effects.
