Where's the gameplay?

<div class="IPBDescription">"Fall 2009," Really?</div>So, I may just be picky, but I never pre-order anything without seeing how it actually works. In the case of video games, I need to see gameplay. We got a kickass trailer that featured some pretty graphics and showed what the rendering engine is capable of (and the Anatomy of a Scene did this, as well), but we have yet to see any actual gameplay. That worries me for a number of reasons. The first is that Fall 2009 is pretty much half over (not a bad sign, but not a good one either), and the second is that Steam hasn't yet created a pre-order page for the game (and games tend to do that when their drop dates are set in stone). Perhaps the devs have been doing this unintentionally (and I know Unknown Worlds is a super-small team), but they have been pretty much starving people on the media end (yes there are visual showcases of engine tech and concept art, but where is the gameplay that Natural Selection fans love?). Take StarCraft 2 as a similar example of a game that people play because of the unique gameplay. The first thing Blizzard did after showing off their teaser trailer was show the gameplay (literally 5 minutes if you were at the convention in South Korea). Natural Selection 2 had its teaser trailer in the summer, and yet we haven't really seen anything featuring gameplay yet - even though the Twitter feed is already talking about gameplay mods and custom maps being made.
Do people figure there's an unannounced delay?

yes you are just picky, if you havent pre-ordered then you aren't losing out on anything are you?
pre-ordering may actualyl get the game finished faster - more cash to splash on human resources - but posting in a forum, certainly won't speed up development.

If that happens to be the actual case and my ~$30 really makes that much of a difference in development, then it's more likely that Natural Selection 2 will go the way of Duke Nukem Forever. Hell, who knows, there are probably hundreds of people waiting to pre-order just because they haven't seen the majority of what they would be paying for. In that case, putting a gameplay trailer out would boost sales. I know for a fact that tons of people in the competitive scene are holding off on NS2 because it has nothing solid to offer yet, even though they were die-hard NS fans back in the day.
I get wet every time I see a new videocast but until there's a firm-ish date set or gameplay video released then NS2 is officially vaporware. I can't pre-order vaporware, sorry.

I'll wait for a solid release date + some gameplay footage before I pre-order. I will not be surprised if this is still a while off (6months+).

I have watched a few of these threads go by and most of the replies consist of people raging the thread opener. Considering the official trailer stated "Fall 09" as a release date I don't see why discussions on the topic of gameplay footage and release dates needs to be raged on so hard.
If there is a delay on the cards I think a lot of people would like to know. Sure they don't need to tell us but it would be nice. In this year alone ######loads of games have been delayed until next year.

TBH, the only raging I see done is by people who think they're entitled to a game faster because they preordered. Or demanding more information or they won't preorder.
I agree, I'd like to hear about delays sooner rather than later, but given the dev team's modus operandi, we're not going to hear about a release date or a delay until they're damn sure of either.
Not going to deny being a fanboy, NS1 is 7 years old this fall and a lot of us are still here. Doesn't make my above points invalid though.

If anyone has the right to complain, it's the people who have actually given money to support development of the game.
This thread really isn't going to speed up the development process.
I think such topics get raged hard because they keep coming up because every user feels the need to create his own "I-demand-footage" thread instead of contributing to the already existing ones. So it seems not only the "die hard UWE fanboys" are blind, at least when it comes to reading a forum, hehe :p
Oh and people, please, stop with the comparisons with Blizzard already. Comparing a large scale company to a small one is just ridiculous.

I would agree with you if it was still summer. We are in Fall, and the release date is still fall (the latest interview even confirmed that the release date has not changed yet.)
It's just we were told a game was going to be released in Fall. We were told there was going to be some gameplay footage at PAX. We have had none of these, and some of us are just on the edge of our seats.

Just so you know Flayra didn't confirm the fall release date in the interview. And the fall release date has been taken off the site.

Well, this is a kind of metaphoric party, and by coming here and saying stuff like NS2 is vaporware, you're gonna piss a few people off, I'm surprised people aren't meaner than they have been. Also these same people have been speaking for others and throwing around assumptions, like this one in this very thread:

The point people are raging is because this like what the 25th thread with the same arguments? It's not like they are going to release faster because 25 of the same threads are posted. If that were true we could make a bot and just post the same thread 25 times >.>
Here is the hypothetical worst case scenario: UWE was out of cash, and was going to have to quit development. They throw up this pre-order thing to raise some cash so that they can finish the game. They've been working hard since then, but couldn't put the game together in time for a fall release, and maybe never intended to. They don't know when they can have it done, and frankly, have finally learned their lesson about release announcements, and probably wont be making any more before alpha. These content updates that they've been making are significant in keeping people on board with the hype about the game. They are showing their work, that we paid for. The game is finally released on Halloween... 2010.
But really, I'm going to be watching for something on this Halloween ok.
The point is, in this worst case scenario, they can still have my money. I played ns to death, and loved every minute of it. In terms of hours of entertainment to dollars ratio, UWE is one of the best I've ever experienced. If they needed the money to keep working on ns2, then I'm happy they have it, and can deliver. If they never come up with it, I feel like I owed them for how much ns1 meant to me. I'm also ok with them blowing the release date, cause, I mean seriously, they're probably just putting the final touches on the BUS, AM I RIGHT?!
I think that this is the worst case hypothetical scenario, and I'd still be ok with it. Hopefully things are a lot better than that.
Also man, you gotta admit, they stuff they've put out looks sweet. It's obvious that they have an office, and are in the process of building a video game every day. Just chill out and go play some more tf2 or whatever you kids do these days.

Maybe something awesome is gonna happen at Oct 31, sure would be cool but i doubt it.
As of right now we hardly know anything, are they working on actuall maps? Or just working on models and some animations to show off on the page? Is the whole concept finnaly done or are we still in the stage of "figuring out what's gonna be in the game"? It's less impatience but more curiosity.
Plus we don't need a thread like this every week. We're gonna get the same posts all the time.
