woohoo weekend deal
So, UT3 is $8 and the Unreal Deal Pack (all UT games) is $16 on Steam for this weekend.
That's quite the deal.
Plus, there are quite a few very shiny mods for UT3, including The Haunted, Angels Fall First, The Ball, and several others. Keep your eyes on moddb/Make Something Unreal for the awesomeness.

OH MY GAWD
angels fall first is such a glorious game... those capital ships are so insanely detailed when you run around inside them XD and looking out the windows watching the battle outside going on while your captain goes on colission course with one of the enemies capital ships is just pure epic.
this one got a +5 from me
UT3 is a beautiful looking game. I want to like UT3. I really try. But the lack of netcode client prediction makes combat so... glitchy, spongy, inaccurate. If they added this in- a feature in all online game since the late 90s- I would enjoy this game so much!
Until then I'll leave it for the UT players to duke it out, guessing where a strafing opponents' hitbox is.
:(
-The game caught me off guard with how beautiful it is. It seems like every new map, be it deathmatch or warfare or whatever I constantly stop and admire the level art, principally the backgrounds and general aesthetics.
-Level design is extremely varied and each one seems more unique then the last.
-The vehicles 'feel' really solid and a part of the game world unlike some games where the vehicles look or feel too sticky or have some other flaw.
-Decent enough character customization aspects
-Interesting game modes, more then just deathmatch and CTF
-Very good map-change rules. The voting system is in my opinion flawless save for needing a slightly shorter timer, but being able to votemap every map change instead of following a preset cycle is very pleasant.
-It was $8 Dollars
-Great vehicle diversity and coding. Driving around one of those Darkwalkers (Tripods) is very fun, specifically the fun part is watching your legs wiggle around like strands of muscular spaghetti and look completely natural even as you walk up cliffs and stuff.
Cons:
-Sherpa's right about the netcode. If you're playing in a low-latency server there's no problem but if you try playing on a server in a different continent the hit-prediction turns to a pile of ass and lag. It's bad enough that it's unplayable to play from NA to Western Europe (i.e. France)
-It's still very much a UT game with important but overall no ground-breaking improvements.
-Low server populations (which may change this weekend?)
Perhaps the best part is the space ships. The land battles are definitely very reminiscent of UT3.
Yeah, UT3 netcode sucks at prediction. Guess they expected everyone to have <100ms lag by now....
that mod isnt officialy released yet, they put a playable beta (rc5) onto their download server as entry for the make something unreal contest, the server you saw is their "official test server" where they have epic battles on weekends. yesterday i played on some other server with 90ms, it was sweet... only 12 players though. it has still some netcode bugs, and some places on the maps when you walk on foot get you stuck on the most stupid edges, but the whole thing has massive potential, but give it some more time.
and seriously, ive seen worse looking betas than this :p
