Serious Sam would be great, we just need an install... Few of us played StarCraft, wherein I got schooled like the nub I am.
Now for a problem that I've inflicted on myself: the Ubuntu install doesn't have a big enough partition (I guess? The HD itself is 200+ GB, so it shouldn't have been filled up by having Ubuntu and Win7 installed), so I can't do much of anything with it. I need to increase the partition(?) size, preferably without reinstalling, and I don't have a clue where to start. Quick google search suggests getting specific programs, like Partition Magic, but they seem to cost money..

Populate a server with max difficulty bots. Force all bots onto one team. Lower the ticket count for your team drastically. Have fun.
Works great for attack/defend style maps where you generally don't retake objective points once they are lost. We used to do this a lot in college.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I heartily endorse. Also, that works for any other game with similar bot control and game modes.
We would sometimes do this for NS when we didn't have enough people, didn't want to play Combat, and wanted to train a noob comm. Granted, when skulks jump into your bullets it isn't as fun, but the sheer number of Aliens (we did around 4:1) makes life fun. You only have so many bullets. Heavy Armor or sufficient advanced weapons kinda breaks the game since they won't be intelligent with higher lifeforms (if they even get them).
I also enjoy objective team games like Dystopia and such. It's less random fragging and more trying to coordinate your team. Granted, with teams randomly changing and differing skill levels, there can also be quite a bit of ###### as one guy tries to carry their team.
left for dead 8+ or there is a mod for making it 8 infected etc. but balances issues go out the window, also killing floor. There is also the new GTA Loads if you think about it.

This is a bit odd ball, but there was this indie RTS I used to play called Trash that was very good for coop. I don't remember what kind of LAN support it had, but teammates were able to share upgrades by building connecting pipes between the two bases. It supported 16 players IIRC and has a free demo(only lets you play humans).

For partition work I've always used "gparted" or something like that, it always worked like a charm, but it's been a while since I've been using Linux so I don't recall was it can / can't do, but it should you well. But just because I never got anything corrupted with it doesn't mean you should ignore the usual disclamer ;)
I found out about gparted, but needed an empty USB drive (or one that could be formatted to FAT32 without destroying coworker data anyway), which wasn't available at the time. Eventually got the ubuntu CD back and just reinstalled, this time with manual partitioning - works fine now.

I'm confused, I found AS on steam (AS: Infested that is) and it requires HL2, isn't this a ut2k4 mod? Did they switch engine or start on a whole new game entirely?
Hmm, I'm sure about the functional playercounts, but the UT2k4 mod Airbuccaneers might work. The basic idea is awesome at least, I haven't had much chance to try the actual gameplay.

AS:I is an entirely different game which they plan to sell. It is incorrectly labeled on Steam although it does use the Source engine.
AS, the game I linked to, is a free mod for UT2K4. It's a great choice if you want a hard co-op game and have a lot of people.

RB6 Vegas, again, cant remember exact number of players allowed to coop.
Serious Sam 2/3
Starcraft UMP
Armed Assault
World in Conflict?
