These are the NS2 forums, not the NS1 forums. You're probably looking for <a href="http://unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showforum=5" target="_blank">this forum</a>. That said, there isn't really any development being done on NS1 anymore.

WRT Siege for NS2: the devs barely have enough time to complete one game mode. They're not going to be developing siege or combat modes. They do expect some people will work with the modding tools to create new similar game mods though.

If you join a bad clan server, their is a new-map vote that lists 1. NS 2. CO 3. Siege... and of course i always vote for 3.

Also this might be interesting but it's really once in 2 weeks that a siege map gets played there... however, once you get the server emptied out of all those siege-map-haters and co-only-ns-haters and ns-lovers(i.e. fades that want an easy kill on a entire team of lmgers with no hope of a heavy... ya those are the ruiner's of NS1!!!)... and people start joining the server BECAUSE it's running a siege map... then you are guaranteed that the next 8 maps that get voted for are siege maps (and the server will be full!)... (just gotta get the number of siege players to crictical mass for that damn vote to pass... VOTE 33333!!!!!! :P)

Also, Ya i used to only play on the [IAM] server JUST BECAUSE OF THE SIEGE MAPS (mixed intermiddetly with that abomination co-map with the name lemmings, but nothing like lemmings, made by that weird [iam] turnip individual. I mean seriously... where the hell can you go now to play a round of digsiege_fnl or supersiege005 with a chance of supersiege003 following that...all BACK TO BACK... damn the community has died when that server stopped being cared for.

Although i will say this about the [IAM] clan... what a bunch of ###### (maybe most of that hate should be directed at [iam] titanium for gagging me every freeking time i said "######".. or "crap"... really... that server was like a bloody Christian server!!! Lawl... just remembered that <bad> ronald mcfondle talked of having a script for redirecting people to the christian server lmao. So ya i put up with the crappy classic ns maps of the <BAD> clan just because i can curse if i so choose to... gotta love freedom of speech!

Now having said that, to answer your question... Yes siege is the best way to play NS and i would love to see it officially recognized as a "classic" gamemode. It combines the chance to get a JP or HA + HMG/GL (like in CO) with the basic gameplay of NS. Another name i'd call it is "ALL-OUT-WAR MODE"... where the com is literally dumping piles of weapons for you to take into battle... every game is epic... It's nothing like boring-watch-the-paint-dry classic-NS...

Currently i just join the alien team in hopes of ending the round fast (against the weakly armed marines)... just for the chance that the next map-vote wins a siege lol.

Damn i can't believe the <bad> clan used to run a siege-only server... i totally never got the chance to enjoy it... They said it was always empty but if they would just alternate the maps with co_blackmesa in-between then that thing would be packed 24/7 :P

...critical mass... is an appropiate analogism.

focused wolf, you have officially reached a new low-point :o the thread too...

NS2 is meant to be extremely moddable, so a siege mode for NS2 will exist surely. But please, no more bashing NS1, just because you are bad at it. If a fade is rushing in, set up a trap with some shirtguns -> problem solved.
Classic game mode has much more depth than siege, which mostly consists of jp hmg vs fade battles. Pretty boring if u ask me, but once in a while quite enjoyable.

Hmm i think we are also forgetting that by design, NS2 will be in a state where every classic map is "siege" like.

    For example:

    1. giant rooms, giant halls. (good for epic-scale jetpants battles and makes it easier for marines to empty their hmgs at aliens from a safe distance). In general the new-classic maps are moving away from close-quarter hallway-to-hallway fighting and moving to (big)room-to-(big)room battles.

    2. a mobile siege cannon... so if we lets say build 10 of these... just a matter of driving them close enough to a hive for an instant-siege-room... umm just invented a new tactic here... "SIEGE RUSH!!!" where you drive them from area to area pwning everything on the map :P

    3. personal res to buy personal weapons (so you will see more players with hmgs/ha/gl/hmg/shotgun randomly throughout the round... like a siege map). Actually that's more like CO isn't it? And then someone runs a simple lua script on there server where once you buy a gun, it's yours even when you die... and then it's exactly like CO... sort of like playing on a siege map where guns are free. Can you imagine being able to spend personal res on structures like having /buildmenu in "classic" ns maps :P

Siegerush shouldnt be credited to you as its common sense, since you have to build them in base and drive to the besieged area under marine cover (akin to payloadmode in TF2).
By what I remember there have been threads that suggested marinespawn should be the only location where siegeguns can enter the map.

I don't know but its possible that the siege is so powerfull that there is only one at any give time active.

not to forget that sieges only attack buildings, but im incertain if they still hurt players to close to buildings.

I've not played many seige maps since I did not see the point. But help me try and clarify. Seige maps are maps where everyone has max res almost all the times because of the number of RTs, has all the upgrades and everything by the time the fighting starts, and is basically a huge brawl?

Where is the strategic element and game progression in that?

It's basically a huge brawl but it has strategies all its own(gl/ha rush, jp resroom sneak, specific mine and turret placement). While the devs won't be making siege maps themselves, the moddability of the tools will allow for some cool variations with prebuilt structures and tech.
