<div class="IPBDescription">simply make the game more fresh</div>Hey unknownworlds, wouldn't it be cool when the marine put the heavy armor on..

the screen layout would be different. (hud color, electric waves and etc) just like in the movies district 9 when the guy jump into the robot thingy

or maybe the heavy armor could have some kind of upgrades like you can see thru walls and detect where the skulk is hiding? and it will have limited energy to the armor?

tell me what you guys think

No he does have a point here. I mean the only way we currently know that we have a heavy on is:

    1. i can't fly? <jump key><jump key>... hmm??

    2. i have big gloves on?

    3. when i walk, their's this clanging?

You would think the heavy would have some special hud and sport some night vision or thermal goggles or something... i mean all that money in building a exosuit just to cut corners in the hud?. It's like your wearing an exosuit but their is no face shield... just your trusty un-armored helmet-hud-head sticking out :P

You walk slower, have big gloves on, make a clanging noise and your HUD tells you that you're on 200+ armour and you're not sure if you're in a heavy armour? Surely it's a good thing your vision isn't impaired, something a military would want and would spend money on? ...

Anyway, I'd personally prefer if gasmasks for lerk spore and an exo skeleton for a mega-armour boost were separated, with gasmasks a lot earlier in the tech tree.

I guess it'd be kind of cool to see a visual indicator when you get into a HA that could symbolise switching vision modes to viewing a camera or whatever as long as it didn't have any further impact. That'd be kind of cool, but not exactly essential.

Its basically just like having a medieval suit of armor on.

I'm in favor of some kind of overlay that enhances ( Limiting with some kind of goggle crap would be lame ) the vision. Or some kind of tacticaly technology that makes it feel really bad ass. Maybe even a robot voice that relays information to you.

something similar was already suggested here : <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/index.php?showtopic=107072" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...howtopic=107072</a>

i was thinking about giving the player some more feedback about being surrounded by an heavy armored exoskeleton, like adding some fancy visor view , narrowing the fov verticaly maybe a little bit by an internal viewscreen... add some noise , or interlacing to the image... with the status readings integrated around the viewport, that would make teamwork between light "scouting" marines and HA marines even more important (or the teamwork between several HA marines in a train), in the way todays infantry would work together with armored vehicles, which havent really such a big awareness marines outside the vehicle would have. maybe it would give even weaker aliens a chance to sneak up on a HA, or stay outside his field of view without instantly getting desintegrated by HMG fire. i was also thinking about altering the sound perception a marine wearing a heavy armor would have. kinda distorted from being recorded by microphones outside the armor, maybe even a little bit muffled, with very little static, but not to nerfed, just to give you more of the "i am inside this thing, hermetic sealed off from my surroundings, just my cameras, sensors and microphones connect me with the outside world" kind of immersion which makes you want to kick some ass. being low on armor or health could also trigger minor visual malfunctions ..or warning readings (kinda like the stuff they made for fear2´s exo) ... but thats just eyecandy ^^ yah.. now flame me to use the search function before i post my brainfarts, - GO!

I think it would have an interface coupling your visual nerves with the suit's sensors

also the HA view needs to be like higher than the light armour players - so that you tower over them all and feel extra buff
the normal players heads should be able shoulder height of the HA

EDIT - can HA climb ladders? are they too heavy or too cumbersome?
  • sheena_yanaisheena_yanai Join Date: 2002-12-23 Member: 11426Members
nahhhh, ladders are no problem, even the onos can tell you that, maybe the ha just needs bellytentacles aswell, every kid knows the onos is using its bellaehtacles to climb ladders .....

    "must klimb leetle ladder!"

    Rofl, bellytentacles :D

I agree with the FEAR2 exo being badass. Immediatly after hopping in (which looks fantastic!!) I experienced the urge to really kick some serious ass! FEAR2 did everything right with its exo!

Right now the spore resistance midgame would be too good, but for NS2 it's an interesting option. Lerk can't just drop useless when the rines are getting gas masks though.

wait...who said that gas masks are any useful against spores anyways, those damn buggers might be just flesh eating, crawling into the unsealed gaps of the LA nibbling on you, i think i can remember that back in the days spores were even corrosive against LA armor...
  • BacillusBacillus Join Date: 2006-11-02 Member: 58241Members
How about: Gas mask negates the health damage done by spore for 10 seconds max. Armor damage is still done as usual and the gas mask has a recharging energy like JP. Once the energy runs, it's good as nothing until you exit the spore and allow it to recharge for a moment.
