i know ns1 had somuch awesome stuff in it that the servers had issues with large numbers of players

i know hardware has come along way, i am really still dreaming of 24 on 24 or 48 on 48. any ideas what the limits might be for ns2?

Well it is going to require a larger map and more work.

Ns1 was unbalanced for large number of players. Because of the new power grid system, I think NS2 would be suitable for any number of players. It's just that map size might be a problem.

    48 vs 48,, qutie much.

If map size isn't a problem, might be CPU.

I have problem even imagining such amount of players.

15 vs 15 is much (acording to me)

I have this insane picture in my mind of the last scene of LOTR return of the king, but with Kharaa and Marines...

    "Release the prisoners!"

Funny. I keep imagining the last scene of LOTR The Two Towers with Kharaa and Marines...

Such amount of player is about 10000 vs 10000.

That would be World War (4) Natural Selection 2 style

God I hate games with large amounts of players.

It means your actions matter less and battles become more about numbers rather than your skill.

I hope NS2 is intended for something like 6v6 to 8v8 and not much higher than that, however, I realize that is very unlikely.

I have yet to play a game where I enjoyed more than 24 players. 18 players seems optimum for most games, but a 20 player cap on a server allows a little flexibility. Too many players and voice comm becomes less useful. (This is why BF2 had squad comm.) It diminishes a sense of team, creates a more chaotic battlefield, and only serves to create experiential gameplay instead of balanced, dynamic and interesting gameplay. More is not always better, and the same applies to player counts unless serious steps are taken to change the fundamentals of the game. I want a strong sense of belonging to a team in this game, thus I encourage server admins to cap lower rather than higher. It'll save you money and the game will play optimally.

I agree that having super large numbers of people is not as fun for MOST games. I, for one, think that 32 players (16 v 16) would be perfect for Natural Selection 2.

I have to agree with SentrySteve here. About the large number of players = individuals actions matter less. Its part of what I feel makes NS very unique and very great. Just one person going fade early can make or break an alien game, a good comm can make or break a marine team. Player performance ACTUALLY matters in the larger scheme of things in NS. Its REALLY cool and super fun. Large teams work great in games like BF2 (which i thoroughly enjoy) where your supposed to be an ant in a sandbox. But NS is more of a small tight knit squad squad game. Lets keep it to 15 v 15 max.

I'm not completely opposed to it though! Hopefully the devs make the net code scalable enough to at least try 24 v 24 games during alpha/beta just to mix it up. Who knows it might even work :P

Speaking from the perspective of a pub hero I really enjoy the 24player games compared with the 12 player games. Though I don't really care for the competitive video games.

32 players max. I don't even like playing 16v16 NS games honestly but some people like them that big. I think 8v8 is the ideal player count so you still have a good feel for all the individuals on your team.

I think people posting here aren't the ones playing at 32 player servers. At least the 3.2 betas were accepted easily here, but once 3.2 final was released, a lot of 32 player balance complaints suddenly started hitting the forums. Nevertheless, I'm fine with the limits as long as it works from 10 to 24 players or so.

I agree, player limit may be 10000.

As long as everything is ok with 10 - 24.
