As one of the "regulars" who pops in and spew ratings, I'd have to say it's mostly because the ideas have been done before. Or their just so ridiculous it's obvious the poster didn't think it all the way through.
So trust me. If it's a good new idea, I'll give criticism. If I've seen it before, I know exactly how the argument runs and will simply give a yes or no.
Overall, this is a fairly solid forum. We have significantly fewer trolls imo, less stupid dissent, and in general thread hijacking is at an amazing low. I believe everyone has a right to their opinion and so feel free to post. However, every time you do you're putting yourself on the spot as a potential target to get praised or laughed at for your ideas, views, and beliefs of what is right and wrong in the world. So, I hate to put it this way, but grow some skin and suck it up. If it's a good idea, prove it. If it's foolish, accept it.

Scythe has pretty much hit the mark with I'd say the number being around 75%. I'm sorry but just because I can find fault in an idea and test someone's idea by criticising it does not mean I am trolling or making it worse, I'm simply testing it. If you can't take criticism or realise when something is not as good as you perceived then refrain from posting your ideas.
As briktal said all the 'trolling' is perfectly planned on IRC. Tesseract and I have gone in to greater depth of discussion on bad topics which are useless we've encountered, then good topics we've encountered of which were main in NS2 General Discussion which have now been phased to I & S.

I'm sorry but I cannot see what Mountain Dew would bring to NS2, and frankly I think it'll upset the balance. The realism isn't there. Marines with Mountain Dew? That's stupid. You're stupid. GAWD.

Mountain Dew makes perfect sense for the marines, Tesser. Stop being so dense.
Of *course* marines operating in a highly demanding and exhausing environment, in which the slightest moment of fatigue can mean death, are going to carry a supply of high energy fizzy drink with them, to keep them bright and alert.
The TSA probably even suplements their funding by using marines in adverts for Mountain Dew.

That's right. Thaldarin never trolls.
