Server requirements/general info

I'd be interested to know if there is any information that can be provided on relation to server requirements. On the NS2 site they have some specs up for the game clients, I'm wondering if there is anything about the server that can be released. My guess (and hope) is that there will be a Windows/Linux server options, maybe BSD? I really don't know if there are any specific information that can be asked for because server specs are pretty loose. And a lot of it really depends on how connections there are to the server.

One thing that I'm interested in is admin communication to the server. Is there going to be a API built into the server or something else?

Don't know exact specs but have confirmed there will be linux server files come launch (most likely during beta when ready - note: not alpha)

They cant say until the beta. They will have some indication come the alpha. For they have to stress test it with players in a server using different amount of buildings/action going on. its not really something they can test in house unless they build some AI bots but then it still wont be completely accurate

Yes, they can, just invite a few friends that like ns over to help test ns2. Although they can not test everything in house, they can get a good idea of most things. This is going to be followed with the alpha to be making sure the game runs on a lot of different hardware( that you can't test in house, there a reason why MS have public betas), and less on the stress testing everything( why make sure the server can run 17 slots 24/7 just fine when it found out that ATI cards with drivers x to y, will not even start the game. The stressing part comes in beta, where we are trying to break the game by playing it a lot. Nothing finds bugs faster then lots of people playing around with something, and more often then not, most of those bugs are going to be repeating each other.
