Questions about LAN

I'm involved in a university recognized gaming group that "owns" a computer lab for the use of introducing students and faculty to the world of PC gaming. (From the standpoint of the University, it means there's a few less students drunk on Fridays and it happens to be a fun way to increase student's familiarity with computers.)

Finding LAN friendly games can be a bit of a chore, especially with the advent of Steam and online DRM. It's our strict policy not to Pirate, and in fact we have indirectly sold a good many individuals on certain games. However, no matter how awesome a new game might be the prospect of justifying the purchase of another 24-48 copies of that same game on a limited (member donation only) budget when they are to be used LAN only and normally once a week is always a bit daunting. Due to the club's distaste for the expense I've personally bought and set up 24 steam accounts with original Halflife so that I could introduce the group to Natural Selection, and it has been a big hit. I've played NS since near its creation and it was a nice change of pace from Call of Duty 4, that I can tell you.

...I better cut to the chase before I ramble on.

The questions:

1. Will LAN be a separate selectable option from internet play?

2. Assuming so, will there be a LAN-only server-side option that allows for the use of an identical install multiple times?

3. Will things be done a different way?

By the way, the 4 character (I believe) restriction on your forum searches makes finding LAN fun.
