Changed my gamma, NS quits and wont let me in?

Riiight, so I was having a good couple of rounds on ABLE and I decided to try and tweak my gamma a bit, see if I could get something that felt a little bit better. So I change the slider, hit apply and NS quits. I open it up again and the menu just flickers + repeating sound? Then it tells me it wants to run in software, to which I say Cancel, aaand ya, I can't get in to NS anymore.

Basically whenever I start NS it gives me a flash of the backgroundimage, -> flicker -> black screen + repeating sound. I hit the "resetgamma.exe" in the NS folder, didn't do anything it seems.

I have Vista 64bit, usually running two screens, switched to one to see if it made a difference now, it didn't. I've been playing more or less flawlessly for about a week now since I started playing NS again. I have had a few driver-related crashes, but nothing a quick reboot doesn't cure. I've tried reinstalling HL, NS, and obviously rebooting.

Anyone know wtf is up with this and how to fix it?

You might wana just delete your config.cfg

that should reset everything back to basics (and if you simply reinstalled NS with our deleting the NS folder first that would be it).

If you did actually completely remove/reinstall NS/HL, then I have no friken clue what to tell you.


BTW, you try out other HL Mods? (including HL)

HL hasn't worked at all on this machine. I have no idea why. It boots up and then just instacrashes back to desktop. It's all really strange and I actually wanted to play some HLDM, but I gave up on that a good while ago.

Thing is NS was working fine so I'm kind of depressed right now.

same here about half life, my ns does not show the prop menu

Are there any safemode commandline options? Or commandline options to start in Direct3D or OpenGL? Anything like this that anyone knows about?

Okay, so I fixed it.

-gl for openGL -> Game fixed. I'm going to assume it just went over to Software even though I told it not to after crashing when I changed the gamma. Finally I'll be able to enjoy sweet sweet NS again.

Also to set a commandline option, just rightclick -> properties -> launch options for any game you want to add it to.
