I may be totally wrong here, buuuut perhaps it's supposed to look a bit like strap on armour? You know, imitation.

An example of the khara having learnt from the TSA? Did you not notice also that a lot of the marine concepts are looking a bit more organic too?

On the original Onos, or on, say, our fingernails, the hard, armor part is at about skin level, so it fits in and looks like a natural outgrowth of the body. On the new Onos, it looks like someone strapped a bunch of armor to him. It looks unnatural.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

It reminds me of that disease in which skin turns in to bone, which makes the Onos look more terrifying to me.

    EDIT:

Just a quick thought with the whole Natural Selection evolutionary theory. Perhaps this is a fully carapaced model and an uncarapaced model is more fleshy as you have stated you prefer TC?

Delphic: Yes, I thought this exactly. It's natural selection and evolution - the kharaa have learned from their first encounter with humans and now the onos, as the highest tier alien, has put on his samurai armor.

That would be the best. Having actual model changes depending on your upgrades. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

If this is the Carapace evolution, I'd have no issues, but considering the <i>huge</i> investment in art it would take to make different alien models for every single upgrade, I'm guessing this is the one and only Onos we have. And he looks like he's ready to play hockey.

well the legs just somehow dont seem to fit the onos, ans the horns/tentacles seem scarym but dont really have the onos feel.

But i do love the design.

I still hope for female Marin.

How would aliens put armor on? It seems out of character but I guess it makes sense if they are constantly evolving from what they encounter. Maybe the aliens have grown less animal like and taken some characteristics of the marines?

I guess it would make more sense if the armor was like a carapace upgrade and more bone like instead of looking like boxy man-made armor.

It's of course far too late to make an entirely new Onos but all of your concept art has been awesome <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

the onos looks fantastic, i love the idea of the aliens adapting to marines, and marines basing their tech on beasts <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

can we assume that the onos now has directional and location damage abilities?

I personally love the evolution process shown with the new onos. It only makes sense that they evolve hardened, bonelike skin when they get shot at all the time. And if they take after the marines it makes even more sense. The only thing I don't really love is the legs/feet. They look a bit off from the rest of the body.

I pray and hope that if I happen to have a Mine on me that I can at last use it to inflict a lot of damage to it.

OK, using it will kill me but it's a kind of satisfying payback to the terrible frustration I currently feel to getting eaten with no means of escape!

I can't say I'm that in love with the new Onos look, myself. Too blocky. But that Skulk got me excited - best part of the teaser.

Doesn't look like metal armour on the ONOS, looks like bone armour or something, like its tusks.

Can't wait to see how that bone armour takes some rounds of a lvl3 hmg

Hmm, lol. Getting eaten by a onos complaint again. Its because you didnt remember the cowards rules <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

1: When you notice something something that feels like its rattling the walls.
    RUN!

2: If you think you have seen something on your map screen that may be a onos.
    RUN!

    3.: If you travel alone.
You obviously have a death wish

4: If you travel in groups.
Make sure your not the last, or first person to enter a room and be ready to run if needed.

    This should save you from getting aten by a onos <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

But, yea... I would never knife charge a ns2 onos for anyone. Leroy Jenkins is a idiot who can go digest away in a onos gut while im headin back to base to get a hmg/sg or something much bigger than I had before DX

I don't like the Kneecaps of this Onos, the rest looks fine, tho.

I love the design of the new Onos - the squareness of its armour, and the strange almost metallic pincer on its mouth, makes me think of how the Kharaa might have somehow incorporated human industrial technology into their genetic makeup.

The Kharaa in NS are basically a DNA-adopting bacteria, right? Nanobots, the 'life juice' of the Marine's strength are particle-sized machines. The Kharaa have always harvested their resources from the same spots as the humans, suggesting that there is some ability for them to adopt nanobots into their chemistry.

I've always found this aspect of NS truely fascinating - there is a lot that can be speculated as to the relationship between the aliens and these industrial complexes they are always found in. The obvious but boring conclusion is, well, sci-fi industrial environments and aliens - what more needs to be said? Yet, there is huge scope for a deeper relationship between the two. Of course, it could be that the Kharaa have a totally different way of harvesting resources in NS2, in which case that speculation may only be pertinent to NS1.

I always thought the aliens were there because those were the only hospitable places. The bacteria infestations always pop up around heat vents and other warm places, and the aliens harvest the nano goo. To me, Natural Selection has always been about the organic versus the machine: the marines themselves have billions tiny nanobots continually patrolling their skin, and the macro man vs alien/tech vs organic fight is mirror at the microscopic level with the nano-gridlock, where the tiny bactieria fight with the tiny nanobots. Turning the aliens into a bunch of fleshy things taking advantage of robots makes them too much like marines for my liking.

Agreed. It does sound more like Intellgent Design (another Mod like NS, but Aliens are replaced with Terran Animals that are enhanced by Nanotech and have developed a malicious Intelligence of their own).

Yeah. Only the knee pads on the onos look too squarish. Other than that, it looks super mean. And it still retains its organic look. Now a rhino instead of a cow.

Now what would be sweet is, for those with nicer machines if when you shoot that plating, you can see bullet holes and burn marks from grenades. And as the onos heals over time, those holes slowly fill up again.
