Is this still the source engine?

<div class="IPBDescription">A few questions</div>Hey, I used to play NS back in the day and I remembering it being a really great game, so I figured I'd check out how NS2 was coming along. Anyway I just saw the dynamic lighting video and I really can't believe the levels were made in hammer... right? I mean I've used hammer a lot and it's a great engine, but lighting isn't it's strong point, though after seeing that video it makes it look more like the unreal 3 engine, which made lighting really easy and intuitive. So is NS2 using the source engine? If so you guys have done an amazing job. Really awesome.

Also I was wondering if this is the source engine, will 'crosshair 0' still be available via the console? Call me insane but I like to play without crosshairs, it's an immersion thing.

They're developing it on their in-house engine.

Oh I see now, figured it was too good to be on source hah.

It sure looks nice, does anyone know if they'll release the map editor for the community to make their own maps? That's half the fun of some PC titles.

I also hope they include somewhere to turn off the crosshair, small change but big difference.

    Thanks for the info <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

AFAIK they're going to have a map editor, texture creator, particle effects editor, and machinma editor, and other art pipeline tools. We don't know what will be available to players and/or included with NS2.

As for the crosshair, while I don't know the specific answer to that question, Charlie has stated he wants a "minimalistic HUD" that provides better immersion. You would probably be able to replace the crosshair image with transparent images if you really wanted to worst case scenario.

The question is; will they be releasing the editors in the NS2TR or will they just be releasing them when the game ships?? I'm hoping they still plan to release a NS2TR.

I was checking out the articles on the engine they're using, I'm jealous about the occlusion culling and lighting approach they can take, especially now waiting for vis to do it's thing.

Also the whole updated textures deal, so much time saved.
