I've been looking forward to mapping for ns2. I've been to numerous forums but nobody has been able to explain how to render textures in 3ds max like in the NS2 videocast #7. I have no idea how to set my scene up( renderer, light source etc.)

I mean render to texture to create a lighting or ao map. I'm not sure which one he used on the video.

They are the same thing. If you actually look for a tutorial on how to bake an ambient-occlusion map in 3dsmax, they are so, so incredibly easy to find.
