Scott Pilgrim is a comic book series about Scott Pilgrim, a Canadian loveable-but-clueless-type guy (one on the left) who wants to date a mysterious American hipster girl (one on the right) by the name of Ramona Flowers. In order to do so, he must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends in combat by any means necessary.

Scott's brilliant. What a guy, he's got a home-made X-Men jacket and some of his first words to the girl of his dreams involve the warp pipes in Super Mario 2. His band's called Sex Bob-Omb! He's 24 with a rubbish job and no direction! He's naive but unfalteringly passionate and absolutely genuine. Watching him and his friends grow over the 5 volumes (the final volume, 6, is coming next year) is a joy. That the author can create such rich personalities for each of the cast with such a small amount of printed material is nothing short of witchcraft.

It's just so goddamn lovely. The simplistic visual style might mislead some into thinking it's light and throwaway, but each of the characters has such an emotional depth. Moments of videogame fantasy and spectacle are used gleefully, with defeated exes dissolving into coins and Scott levelling up, but the relationships between the characters feel so real. It's cute and it's cool. It's such a dichotomy - it's just wonderful.

It makes my heart flutter.

It's the defining comic book series of our generation and I would recommend it without any reservation. It's simply perfect. Please buy all 5 volumes.

As if we're not lucky enough for the comics to exist, the Right Honourable Edgar Wright (of Shaun of the Dead / Spaced / Hot Fuzz critical acclaim) is the director of the movie version! That's Edgar F'n Wright, a man who has an obsessive dedication to any project he's involved in. It couldn't be in safer hands. He's also got a blog with new production images added daily! Man, I'm so excited!

WE ARE SEX-BOB OMB! ONE TWO THREE FOUR!

I've heard good things about this comic, but I've just never gotten around to reading it.

Had a read of the preview on the site and it seems pretty good :3

Also, I'm wondering if that's where you get your 'ending some stuff with "guy"' thing from two flow or if that's a regional quirk ;D

Perhaps that's why I'm a bit in love with Wallace Wells, "Homosexual" Roommate, but actually I've been guying for ages. While he's been "Homosexual"ing.

But now you have to buy the books, you understand! There's loads of stuff that I really love but wouldn't unreservedly recommend (like Outrun 2!), because I can see that some crazies might not like it quite as much as I do. But I can safely say that any actual human being should fall in love with this series. It's just too charming, you've no defence from it.

You should go and buy it!
