<div class="IPBDescription">Improve your google-fu</div>I'll be the first to say that searching in this forum is not a no-brainer. The simple search feature is easily accessible, but not all that useful for most searches. The advanced search feature is powerful, but somewhat hidden away. I figured it was time to reveal the ancient mystical secrets of the "More Options" button.

The short way: <u><a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=&act=Search&mode=adv&f=0" target="_blank">GO HERE!</a></u>
The long(er) way: <ul><li> Go to the Ideas and Suggestions Forum(or any similar subforum)</li><li> Scroll to the bottom and find the drop-down box that currently says "Ideas and Suggestions" (or whatever forum you're in)</li><li> Click on it and select "Search" (it's second from the top)</li><li> Once the page loads, click on the button that says "More Options"</li></ul><!--sizeo:4--><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Google-Fu Moves<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->

Let's say you want to search for a topic about broken legs. You type "broken leg" without the quotation marks into the simple search and you get this error back:
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->One or all of your search keywords were below 4 characters or you searched for words which are not allowed, such as 'html', 'img', etc, please go back and increase the length of these search keywords or choose different keywords.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Now what? Just searching for the word "broken" will create so many hits it will cause website to crash like it's 2006(not really). You can stealthily sidestep this limitation like a ninja by putting the phrase in quotation marks so now the algorithm will search for "broken leg"(space included) as one word.

You must suggest your idea on Left 4 Dead style revival mechanics, but you keep hitting useless spam threads from the Off-Topic forum! No fear, the "Search Where" box is the tool you need to clear the field of the unworthy. You can select multiple forums using "shift" for blanket attacks, or "ctrl" for more accurate hits.

If you know who said what you're looking for you can always use the "Filter by Member Name" feature to quickly narrow your strike to just the important people. <!--coloro:#FF0000--><span style="color:#FF0000"><!--/coloro-->Do not click the "Match Exact Name" box!<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--> This is a meaningless temptation that has the Zen like quality of returning no search results even if you spell the name correctly.

You hunger for more technique? Then be amazed at the versatility of "%". Let's say you want to find all of the people who said "Bhop is crazy" AND all of the people who said "Bhop is not crazy". The search(w/o quotes) "Bhop % crazy" will return both! It may also return some surprises as well like "Bhop is a lot like cheese because if you have it you love it and if you can't you're crazy".
<!--sizeo:3--><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->The Redirection Strike<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
"Bhop % crazy" is too powerful! It overwhelms me! I bring you a tool to tame its power. The '-' modifier may help you in your quest. "Bhop % crazy -cheese" will create all of the hits of "Bhop % crazy" except those that contain cheese.
Now go forth and Search!

Unluckily, why do we need all these techniques? I demand Google indexing of the forums!!!! rawr!!!!
j/k. That usually ends poorly.
It is one of the best tools when it comes to searching on forums, because quite frankly, sometimes I searched for stuff I know I will get a result of, except that as I used a forum search I got no hits at all. When I then move to google withg the site search I quickly find exactly the page I need.
It's on the list though
