Lerk spikes!

are they gonna bring back lerk spike shooter?
that was awesome! i liked the "ranged harasser" class type it made the lerk act as. i understand that you want the aliens and marines to be differant (ranged vs melee) but youve already got the crappy gorge spit and fade acid rocket, so its not like you would be breaking any rules.

    That's quite a retarded statement...

    We don't know if they are even putting the lerk back in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Yes, the spikes were nice, and i agree, if the lerk is in, spikes would be nice to give him a small ranged ability that actually can be directed.

oh, with my statement earlier, i was just noting that you coudnt use the argument that you didnt want the aliens to have ranged weapons in order to differentiate between the marine playsytle and the aliens playstyle, becuase they already had a couple projectile attacks. but yah, it will be interesting to see what they do with that (and you bringing up the question of whether or not theyll have the lerk at all made me curious to think about how theyll change things)

I hope they are, NS2 just wouldn't be the same without the lorks on the clorf.

If the lerk spikes came back... I wouldn't like the lerk as much. There is something terrifying about a creature that 'swoops' down to try and bite you... And does this with lightning speed... If all it does is 'cower' back in the back and shoot spikes at you... Why even give it wings? Make it jump high then or something... It isn't as scary. It should still have the bite ability...

The lerk can dodge and move ... Spore the enemy (A directed attack that can eventually kill and last time I checked... It is ranged)..

And once the enemy is out of ammo or shooting the incoming skulks because they were directing their attack at the lerk (giving the much needed time for the skulks to close the gap)... go in for the kill.

Though the lerk isn't a kill-all-marines kind of alien.. It is meant to harass/support and fallback against larger groups of marines. And then spread out across the map and eliminate lone marines and/or small teams. It still has it's potential. The weapons 3 vs lerk can be annoying if you get hit a lot ofcourse. But then again... Thats weapons 3... Full weapon tech vs a near the beginning of the game creature.

Now cowering in the back shooting at you is the gorge's job. Don't take that away from us or steal our spotlight ;p

I think aliens should stay away from direct long range damage dealing abilities

My all time favorite harassment technique... drives marines bat ###### crazy 75% of the time, everytime

I am for spikes, but as an alternate weapon which the lerk must choose when morphing.

i.e. while morphing, a small menu would come up saying:

    1. Bite
    2. Spikes

you choose, and your weapon 1 is that.

hmm, after listening toyou arguments countering lerk spikes, i may have changed my mind. they were super fun to shoot people with, but it is much more satisfying to swoop and bite people.

on a semi related note: i think it would be cool if there were actually more of a decision to be made regarding the movement upgrade tree. (mostly aimed at the lerk, but also regarding all higher lifeforms) more spcifically, a decision that doesnt involve adrenaline or being retarded. i think the skulk is the only one that sometimes has a legitimate choice to make in the movement tree.
sure, other lifeforms benefit from them as well, but it comes down to the fact that if you run out of energy, you die.
