<div class="IPBDescription">since other thread went poof</div>Who here used to play and who here still plays?

After my usual break of Eve which I do quite often. I wish to come back and play it.

Looks neater and they released some nice stuff. Thing's balanced or still some overpowered crap? If so, what is overpowered and what should be used to keep up to base and not be blown away in a matter of seconds (besides not traveling alone)?

As usual, when I come back. I want a decent Corp to get into so I'm not alone. I prefer running with NS guys like I usually do.

Anyways, who still plays?! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Players still active:

- Confused > Wilhelm Beck

- X_Stickman > Floggle Wopper

- Mark > main: Ginjarou / alt: Karmen Jell

- Warrior > RuptureX

- Shock wave > Vox Domini (f'ing Goonies! lol <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> ) movie quote

If you roll in, I'll do it too.

Game is installed, just my miner and my main account aren't activated yet.

My account has some years on it, so my main is pretty built up. Can fly most ships BS class or below and pretty decent weapon skills and training.

I think I have a Raven stowed away, but I keep with cruisers since they seem to be more conventional.

Played from release for about 6 months or so I think. Semi-tempted to go back but not sure if I want to spend the cash.

You only played for six months after release? That was like what, five years ago?

The game is way freakin' different.

Give the 15 day trial a go to take a peek at all the new stuff.

There is this thing called the buddy program that lets you send your buddies 21 day trials instead of 14 if you want an invite just drop me a pm.

Those of you in game ill be in the workers channel.

additionally omg eve drama llama today/yesterday.

In MMOs I never join corps or guilds or whatever (except in planetside when I joined an outfit). I know that's kinda the whole point in MMOs, I just never enjoy being in them. I guess that's why I don't really get on well in MMOs.

I cant disagree enough, fundamentally it's still the same game, but there have been massive improvements in fleet/jita lag..

I'm fifty percent surprised there haven't been a bunch of poasts around the net today. Apparently, everyone is getting more used to EVE <a href="http://games.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/02/06/0714218" target="_blank">randomly generating player drama</a>. the slashdot link is so you don't have to wade though the usual array of eve crap.

as to the differences between 6 months after release and now. The game is very different than it was. I mean i started in 2005, since then there have been capital ships, mining barges, titans, tier 3 battleships, and frieghters. That's just the ship changes.

I mean tech two isn't even out until 6 months after release, nor are battle cruiser, or destroyers.

Honestly, while it is still flying spaceships, nearly everything is different newer and shinier.

    of course I'm biased.

I never had enough cash in-game to buy anything. I remember I had all the minmitar frigates (I spent all the money I had on them 'cos I was bored), I used a mammoth to container-mine in some random .8 system I found that no one else ever seemed to go in, and a rupture for messing around in.

I remember when I bought the Rupture, when I was flying it back from the station I bought it at, I suddenly realised I hadn't fitted *any damn weapons* on it, or put any drones in it. And then I ran into a group of 5 Mo0 battleships around a gate on my way back and I had to smooth talk my way through, using my immense charm.

Just to remind people, unlike WoW and other MMOs, EVE online actively encourages sale of EVE in-game assets for real spondooliks (provided transactions are mediated by EVE). So the infiltration and disbanding of (the biggest/2nd biggest?) corporation in the MMO universe, and subsequent looting of its assets can be quantified in real-world financial loss.

It turns out <b>buying and selling isk/in game items for Regular cash is bannable </b>just like everywhere else.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->You may not market, sell, advertise, promote, solicit or otherwise arrange for the exchange or transfer of anything in the game or other game services unless it is for in-game sales of in-game services or items.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    There is however one exception.

You can use money to buy game time codes, which allow you to play the game for a fixed period of time just like you had paid with your credit card. these can then be converted into in <a href="http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/30_Day_Concord_Pilot_License_Extension" target="_blank">game items</a> which can be sold for in game money. The theory being that people without credit cards could buy these time codes from game retailers with cash and play the game with them. in practice they are a means for putting rl money into isk, but not the other way around.

In game I'm Wilhelm Beck. I can be found in the workers channel in game if I'm online, if not drop me an eve mail and ill see what i can do help out.

Not really, maybe in eve, but in most MMOs you don't need to waste your time with guilds at all. Or at least I don't :o
I just chat to everyone and have a good time.

Still haven't tried even though I've got a 30 day trial key (yes 30, not 21). I want to, to see the economy and stuff but my interest is almost purely design-related... as a player the idea of flying about in spaceships holds pretty limited appeal to me. Like the EVE Hell vid, I have trouble relating to that kind of stuff; I need peoples!!! :p

Might hold on to my key until they introduce the walking about spacestation stuff :3

I must has have misinterpreted the meaning of spondooliks.

What I was trying to point out was that this is not second life style where once can convert in game ISK into dollars. There exists, to my knowledge, a single way one is allowed to add Real money into EVE, the ETC stuff I linked above. As Lf mentions transactions for in game stuff are supposed to be for other in game stuff.

Also, stick man ill try to wire you some isk tonight my time. save you from the mining asap.

I believe that the aforementioned game time codes can also be traded directly in the game. So while it isn't possible to get any money OUT of the game (legally), it's possible to pay your subscription entirely with in-game money/goods. However, you'll just be buying game-time from other players who have still purchased it with real money, so CCP still get a monthly subscription fee for each active account. Clever, that.

To be fair, it is an amazingly common practice to sell Eve stuff for real world money. CCP may not support it, but I've never seen them take an active stance against it. The most I've seen them do is warn people against advertising in the game-chat, as well as a few warnings that say they're not supportive of it.

Plus as lolfighter pointed out, you can buy game cards and sell them for in-game money. So you can *buy* isk, but you can't *sell* isk.
