I have to say that my favorite part is the races. and the screaming sounds when I knock everyone else over while frantically racing over the lava killing them all either by fiery doom or by the edge of screen zipping aloing down the silde while they try to stand back up.

I only did it three times:)

That said this game makes me want to buy a ps3.

It had a lot of charm to it, especially w/ how easy it was to find user-created levels, but sadly it got old too fast. The controls were terrible, and for a platformer that is kind of a dealbreaker.

The whole moving up/down through the 3 z-levels just doesn't work, despite their efforts to make it automatic. In fact this is probably the thing that annoys me more than anything else. I was always missing jumps or not being able to climb hills because the game decided to move me to a different ledge instead of the one I was trying to get to...

I was never able to even come up w/ any good ideas for levels to make. Given a blank canvas and infinite possibilities I always draw a blank. :(

I mostly agree. My cousins have a PS3 so we played a lot of this when I was down there for Christmas. It's sort of fun and the graphics are definitely spectacular but it's pretty frustrating when the controls fight against you instead of working for you. The music is also nice and by far the best part is the expressions you can make the little Sackboys have. I'll never get tired of watching those faces, especially with all the different costumes. Of course, since that's the funnest part of the game you can imagine how old the platforming gets. Certainly not something I'd ever buy, but it's nice to have played it.

you have to give Media Molcule credit for trying to make something totally diffretnt then anyone has made before tho. now adays its the same type of games over and over with a different storyline or weapons..

Also, when I hit "random" on a costume for my sack, it gave him no hair, a mustache, glasses, a dress, and blue skin!

I named him Tobias. I'm afraid that I just blue myself.

Not really. I could make a million games that are just as different as LBP. That's not a challenge at all. The challenge is making it fun, and they screwed that up, especially considering all they really had to do was do a better job ripping off Mario.

I'm with Yahtzee (near the end of the video): I'd rather that they try and fail than that they don't try. Easy for me to say that, of course - unless I buy the failed experiment I'm not the one losing money from it. But still, keep experimenting. Sooner or later something good will happen.

I feel like the PC is a better place for these experiments, because it's much easier to release it for free or as a downloadable indie game than it is to get everything certified and published for a console. Also, I don't have to buy a console. You can find both free and retail indie games that break the mold in a thousand more ways than LBP when they don't have to worry about HD graphics and fancy stuff like that. If they tank, or even if they're not a ton of fun (like LBP), at least they don't bring a company down with them.
