How about giving more weight to votes from people who have been voted up? i.e. Person A has 200 positive votes. Person B has 500 negative votes. Person A's vote counts more.
The tiered server idea is interesting too... The whole, one vote per wonid against wonid concept sounds like it would work well too.
-Slappy<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> I kinda agree there, but a tiered system is only so good. Using flat voting is obvisiously not an option because some guy got voted AFK on my system and kick (although he wasn't). Soooo. Hhmmm....
Let me see if i understand? U have positive and negative votes right? how do u get positive votes? I don't see how this can be accumulated. And don't tell me you just vote for it. Becuase, well, I can fill my server with my buds and have them all vote for me. hhhhmmm.....Negative votes are bad too because u can totaly trash a person if like a bunch of llamas start voting ppl.
I think we should change it from votes, to points, and use a log analyzer (perl scripts, etc) to analyze the logs and send a transaction description to the server and the server would then take a total. Kinda like those CS stats websites. They just analyze the logs.
I also suggest making the CLIENT open source. But the server side, i'm not sure......could be....but not if it contains sensitive algorithms (aka encyption keys, auth, etc).
I love the idea about "tiered" but not on a voting basis. I think the wieght should be assigned via the server, but when they want to vote someone off, the "weigth" of there vote counts more. But doing so makes a record in the log then THAT subtracts from their score, and not the ppl voting him down. (and if he's voted out, its an kick, and a 2nd time is a ban for 14 minutes, and a 3rd is 1000 minutes, etc in a certian given period of time) to prevent one person from screwing themselves on the same server too often if they just want to play on the server but the ppl are being butt heads.
Thats just some more ideas on it. Constructive i hope. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
All of that has been addressed previously in the thread. The ++ and -- are staying for sure. The rating will be based off of what other users say and nothing else.
