Dead Space and NS2

<div class="IPBDescription">to get some ideas for maps</div>I just finished playing this game and wow is all I have to say. The sound, lighting, fog, geometry, etc all worked together to make a perfect atmosphere. The game itself takes place in a deserted space ship with small corridors and tons of vents for aliens to pop out of. It reminded me so much of NS I had to post something here. I think the NS2 team and mappers should play this game to get some ideas for new maps. I mean if you just took the raw level data from Dead Space and put a hive and CC somewhere in there, you would have a great NS map (not taking balance into account).

I'm going to pick this game up at some stage alright. I have to say, I was initially skeptical and assumed it'd be just another survival horror, but the initial reviews all seem great.

The three things that put me off the most:

    1) Time attack games with the stupid oxygen counter
    2) Clumsy inventory system
    3) Where are the space marines? Think of how much cooler/more fun due to better gameplay this game would be if the TSA were handling the hostiles.

aNytiMe you won't even notice 1 or 2. The oxygen counter is rarely a problem as there are always plenty of refueling things nearby and you dont even go into no-air zones that often. The inventory system isnt really clumsy either. The only problem with it is it is hard to use it during battle. Other than that I see no problems. I suggest you at least try this game.
And as for space marines, yes it would be cool, but it would eliminate the 'alone' feeling that makes Dead Space so scary.

I just picked up this game myself, and let me tell you its great. I haven't played many survival horrors myself, but this one is a ton of fun. I agree with BCSeph, this game totally made me think of Natural Selection. I think one of the key things NS2 could get from this is the sound. The audio was perfect, truly stood out from the great graphics and fantastic game play. From the sound of random things falling in another room, to the flicker of a light bulb it was great. If NS2 can pull off sound quality like this you will add a great scare factor to the stunning action.

Played it abit, since it's my friends, and im too poor to get it myself, and dont got an xbox 360, now i feel like a caveman.

Truly stunning, I liked how you play as an engineer, just like HL, were u play as a scientist, u aren't trained to fight, but u do a damn good job of it. Sounds are what NS2 should basicly 'rip' from it, they are damn right killer, the sounds would kill me faster than those mutant freaks =)

Yeah it's great! I was thinking the same thing about NS2 maps when playing it today. It just has lots of unique geometry. But I think the driving force behind NS2 art direction in maps is to use props. It would be good if there are lots of "integrable" props like pipes and things designed to be placed right against the wall or ground that aren't like barrels that look like they are just plopped down here and there.
