Just bought it. Anyone want to play? Talk about it? The beginning is by far the coolest/cutest thing I have ever seen, and I'm enjoying this game to it's fullest extent. I'm not even at the main menu yet...

I REALLLY want to play this. But seeing as I am not buying a console. Yeah...

I would say that this game alone would justify buying a PS3 for me, along with the rest of the lineup. But this is incredible. One of a kind!

Endless possibilities level wise, technically new content is always being created for you to try. For me, I'm drawn to it because I like to customize characters as well as explore new places. The fact that there are people out there publishing new levels every week (some of which very high quality!) for me to dive into and waste my time in really appeals to me.

That and I can make sackboy look happy, sad, angry or scared. I can dress him up like a pirate or a spaceman! And I can move his little arms, and <i>oh!</i> when I tilt my controller he moves too. I can make him danceeeee!

    But yes. I like exploration/customization. That's why I play.

I'm with Sonic- don't see the appeal.

To me it looks like a platformer injected with a dose of The Sims.

It seems if you've got people you play with online it's fun. Not sure about playing it on my own though.

I would have loved this game... for another console :p

Looks fun and it'd probably appeal to me but I'm not buying a PS3 for it. The PS3's still lacking in 'killer apps' for me and until that's solved I can't see myself getting an overpriced, shiny black george foreman's grill I'm afraid :/

You should post up some screenshots of cool stuff you make or your sackboy :3

it looks great, and i was thinking of getting it , but i think i might be too old for it - i just can't imagine myself walking to the right with a funny character for more than 10 minutes.

i can see the multi player could be fun though

The excellent use of audio and a user-friendly level editor in LBP is something UWE should seriously take into consideration for NS2.

    I mean it.

It's a really, really creative game. I've been lucky enough to try it out some a friend's console. I spent of of my time playing with the level editor instead of the game. If only Hammer were this easy to use!
  • AbraAbra Would you kindly Join Date: 2003-08-17 Member: 19870Members
Hammer's not that hard to use really. Optimization is the hard part.

It has all the core gameplay elements of good performers -- simple enemy design, a simple yet very controllable jump allowing for entertaining obstacles, and a point system. The thing that limits most of the old school platforms is level scarcity. Not in the sense that there aren't that many levels, but that you can tolerate so many you only want more. Giving people a very easy to access level editor remedies the problem with mario.

You get tired of it because you memorize all the levels...I'm up for a game of mario anyday otherwise. :3

I'm also guilty of mildly enjoying all the customization on it though. My pod is decked out.

I only have a crappy camera phone to really take pictures of. I dunno how to take screenshots with my PS3...can I email them somewhere?

I don't care how simple the level creator is, who ever made that is ######ing insane. (Though awesome)

    Oh, right.

I have a PS3, but I just bought WAR, FO3 and RB2, and L4D comes out soon, and I just don't think I could stay interested for long enough (it looks like a party game tbh, and I have my Wii for that). Might rent it at some point.

No Thansal. We, the internet, have declared that he is not allowed to have fun with something that is beyond our intellectual capacity. Therefore we rule that he is a geek, a loser, and will never have sex with anything but a teddybear.

Now excuse me, I have to go and post images of lolcats.

I understand the motivation behind it. I mean, I built a binary clock with an ATmega168 just last week because I happened to have enough LEDs sitting around.

What confuses me though is: do the parts actually move or are those green lines it shows just logic trigger things? I'm going to assume the latter since the machine works instantly. Ill be more impressed when somebody builds something like:
    <center><object width="450" height="356"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/GcDshWmhF4A"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/GcDshWmhF4A" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="450" height="356"></embed></object></center>
    With the ingame physics engine.

I'm not entirely happy with my ps3, but in the 3 months I've owned it I feel its been less of a waste of money than the wii, which I've had since launch day :x
None of the current systems are entirely worth their price imo. The PS3 has a somewhat lackluster library, I love my xbox games, but the system itself has red ringed 4 times now and the wii has really no titles that interest me outside of super mario galaxy.
Metriod Prime 3, SSBB and eve WarioWare SM were all disappointments, both not really holding up to the level of standards set by their predecessors. My only games I'm actually happy with on the wii are Trauma Center: Second Opinion and Twilight Princess, both of which I could have purchased in one form or another for another system I already owned.

As for LBP: I don't own it, but I loved the beta. It was amazing. The controls weren't perfect, switching between layers was often clumsy and caused all sorts of horrible bugs in many player made levels, but overall the game stayed fun and interesting. I'm probably gonna pick up a copy for christmas.

oh, and Xyth, I went through all the tools in the beta (Which that addition machine was made with) and there were no form of logic triggers. Its very likely that everything in that machine actually moves. and the addition machine you linked in your comment would be extremely easy to make in game (Probably no more than an hour) :x

I really enjoyed the beta and it was the first (computer) game in a very long time that both my gf and I were interested in playing together. We clocked up a lot of hours during the beta, unfortunately the game isn't out here in Europe yet.. I know some stores are breaking the street date, but I can't get a copy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

I'll be buying it as soon as it comes out. My only gripe with it is the z-axis controls are a little too complex for the target audience. I've spent hours playing it with my two nieces and often had to take the controls from them to help them past some obstacle that should have been really straight forward.

The quality of the custom level available in the beta was much better than I expected but at times I found the netcode to be very jittery. Hopefully the recent patches addressing network issues have resolved all of them, but I'll buy it anyway.

As for the PS3 in general, well, it's used all the time in my house if not for playing games then as a media extender or dvd player. I had a hard time justifying the purchase to my gf ( I bought before the price-cut ) but now she admits that it is by far the best media solution we've ever had ( from htpc, network dvd players, kiss technology devices etc ) and would buy one again in the morning if necessary. As a home entertainment system it is an option, whereas the xbox is only an option if you are partially deaf. The wii is also a nice solution though, if you aren't interested in HD content. Using a combination of opera and tversity gives a very nice media extender solution.

I agree the z-axis controls are a bit frustrating at times, but usually I can navigate between the layers with ease. Like all things it takes a bit of getting used to. Also, the connection quality to the servers and "net code in general" seem to be improving.

I'll agree with you on this one.

LBP is fun from what I've played and the Story levels are wonderful. But making things is so damn time consuming because you're suck with an analog stick and with other players the camera zooms so far out you can't see too much. It also doesn't help you have to go through 10 minutes of tutorial to build anything and unlock pieces to use. Things also began to fall apart on us or dissolve while working with it.

    The jumping sucks too.
