Has anyone with a Linux NS server managed to update to Protocol 48?

It seems, try as we might, we can't get the Linux based HLDS Update Tool at Jigglypuff's to realize the server needs updating. Says it's updated - but it is still using Protocol 47.
We've tried adding steam_appid.txt with a 70 in it to the \NS folder, to the \VALVE folder, and the HLDS root folder.
I do not think we have any of the offending switches described in Richnet's post.
One complication is that this same box is running a TFC and ZP server. Both of these, however, are suffering the same syndrome. (I won't bother mentioning the various Source mods on the box, and just pray there can't possibly be a conflict.)
I'll skip my usual rant about what a travesty this patch, as well as the continued alterations to the GoldSrc HLDS are, in general, and just say "Defend target at waypoint!" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />
Halp!

My hlds is a windows one running on linux with wine and the steam_appid.txt with a 70 fixed it and thank god I made my choice to hldserving that way <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
*sigh* I've a feeling we're the only ones out there running a Linux based NS server, or one of a very few. I dunno if setting up Wine on our monster box is even an option. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
I can't believe that Valve hasn't rolled back this change. You are right about the NS server population dropping by 70% - but it isn't just NS - it's ALL the HL1 mods. When I looked at the beginning of the month, there were over 50,000 servers of various GoldSrc games out there - now there's less than 15,000!
There's not been a population drop like this since we went from WON to Steam. How can Valve justify doing something like this to its community? Where the hell do I put up my protest sign? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" />
