Welded Vents

Do Aliens have options?
Is there anything we can do to open a welded vent? Can we crunch through it someway or unweld with acid rockets or something?

AFAIK (although i've never successfully tested this) welds have 5000 hp. So it should take a skulk about 45 seconds of biting to break it.

Again, thats only what i've heard. I've never actually tried to eat a weld.

It might work. There's got to be a way. " Bile Bombs" for a few days?

I've tried biting through a welded vent before and it's never worked for me, I think if welds had about as much HP as a sentry turret, and the marines could re-weld it as many times as they wanted to in a game, it would make things more dynamic. Otherwise on some maps the marines can just dash in a weld a vent off and bingo, they can fall back to their defenses and all of a sudden there's only 2 ways into their base instead of 3. When if they held that area, and welded it, then skulks couldn't slip through and wouldn't have time to bite through, forcing the aliens to destroy that outpost, but not simply cutting them off totally.

Welds are in fact destroyable, I've played marines on bast. They had a well defended (Tons of ocs and dcs) by the airlock in bast. we had a half dozen siege set up. They fired and fired but kept healing. commander recycled em like a fool after he saw they were doing nothing. Big mistake. The aliens poored in through the vent once the bombardment had stopped. He swore at us asking us how we let them slip through base, into the vent, then evolve into fade not believing us when we said the weld was breached. Next round, same map, I checked it out. Welds and what not stay from round to round. When I got there, not only was the weld gone, but it could not be rewelded. Interesting indeed. Kill a weld, its gone, for good, until the map reloads.

I've seen that too, but only on that particular Bast weld point. Never sat there for 45 seconds trying to beat down other weld points. Something to look into I guess.

From what I've been told all weld points have a certain amount of hit points that can be worn down on after it's been welded open or closed. It's easy enough to do provided you can stay safe for long enough.

Wow, I had no idea. I thought a welded vent was a write off. Thanks for the tip.

Tonight I played as the Marines for a change. I welded a vent (on ns_nothing, I believe) near the Marine base. It was eventually knocked out by a Onos. So it is possible.

I know it's possible, I watched as one of my teammates on an small LAN game chewed through the weld point outside of the marine airlock entrance on ns_bast. It took me a sec to figure out what he was doing, but I did remember that weld points have hit points after welded. Just keep attacking it and you should eventually be able to destroy it.

what about weld points that are, by default, closed? how about when the weld is a switch for a door?
  • NecroNecro <insert non-birthday-related title here> Join Date: 2002-08-09 Member: 1118Members
what about breaking it AFTER it's been closed?
  • DukatDukat Join Date: 2002-11-08 Member: 7748Members
Default closed weld points I believe can be welded open.

Breaking closed weld points is what we've been talking you *pauses to compose self*... I refuse to further comment on the obvious naivativity of that last post.
