I really want to get a new PC, but I need it to run NS2 at at least 100+ FPS. Do you guys have any system specs confirmed yet?

100 FPS is the max you need to run at
    60FPS is probably the lowest.

I would be guessing if your computer can handle Half-life 2: Episode 2 then you should be fine.

Feel free to prove me wrong though.

Could be a little nicer in your reply next time, but to actually help out:

    Straight from the <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/faq" target="_blank">FAQ</a>:
    <!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->What are the system requirements?

We're not sure, but something around a 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, mouse, keyboard and of course, an internet connection.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I assume that will be the minimum.

I assume the video card will need to support DirectX 14.

    I don't mind rudeness Comp =) lol

I've seen the FAQ, and I'm looking for something more definitive. The FAQ was written, IIRC, when they were planning on (or had announced) Source as the engine. Now that Max's engine is being used, I think those figures aren't going to really reflect the needed specs (they could easily be lower as Max seems highly competent).

    You are digging yourself a hole here Radix <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Let me extend my quote a little...

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->What version of Source is NS2 based on?

NS2 started life on the Counter-Strike: Source/HL2 Episode 1 source branch but has been moved to our own custom engine. All the gameplay code was written in Lua so most of the game translated over smoothly.

    What are the system requirements?

We're not sure, but something around a 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, mouse, keyboard and of course, an internet connection.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

In summary, the FAQ has been updated since the engine change so I assume the requirements have been as well. And the engine (currently) works with BSP maps as they move over, so it will be very similar to HL2 requirements.

What I'm saying though, is that the FAQ specifically says:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->We're not sure, but something around a 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, a DirectX 9 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, mouse, keyboard and of course, an internet connection.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'm looking for perhaps updated information. From the more extensive quote you provided, it only seems that the workflow would port over. The internal code changes 100% between the old and new engine, so I don't think it necessarily follows that the specs will remain the same?

I'll admit I'm reaching, since no official release has been made, but like I said, it's just a request.

EDIT: Also I'm basically looking for recommended vs necessary system specs.

I'm sure you've seen this coming:

Just wait for it to come out, by the time its released you will most likely be able to afford twice the computer for half the price.

Kick the upgrade bug, its so much more fun to see large jumps in performance than small ones.
