I meddle with magnets

<div class="IPBDescription">And also tiny aircraft!</div>I guess some people like reading things. Words, sentences, paragraphs, that kinda thing.

There are some words over <a href="http://www.tjhowse.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=93" target="_blank">here</a>, ones that you might enjoy reading if you're interested in things that fly.

Also:

WHATEVER COULD IT BE. TUNE IN NEXT WEEK.

Or just click the link. There's a video of me there too.

Or I can put it here, either way is cool:

    Scythe ends up with all the coolest hobbies <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Very nice, however I have to admit, how does the motor detaching (and thus tumbling around wily nilly on the ground) keep it from getting messed up?

I could sorta get suspending it in the fuselage with rubber bands of some sort (shock absorber like), but just having it detach?

Or is it the idea that if it is firmly attached to the plane then all of the excess mass of the plane itself would eventually cause injury when it is slammed together, and the motor itself is light enough that you can toss it around no worries like?

Either way, very awesome, too bad there are no videos of you being attacked by birds <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Yeah, you're correct. The motor flying off takes away about 30% of the energy of the crash. It, in itself, is quite tough and can tumble away without any problems. The rest of the energy is in the plane. It can safely whack into the ground, but when there's a motor leading the charge, bad things occur.

There will be more videos taken tomorrow, if I can coerce Michelle to be my camerawoman.

A great hobby and one I wish I could afford. My neighbor's son is into it bigtime, and even has software on his PC for flight training these.

There's also a lot of kinetic energy in the rotating engine. Plane hits ground, propellor gets stuck, plane gets twisted around, wing slams into ground and snaps.

The magnet mount is a good idea but not practical for engines much larger than the small (appears to be electric) engine shown though...

Thats a great idea, surprised they dont do that with all the trainer type planes.

Actually, a lot of beginner planes do already. They detach between the wings and body though, serves the same purpose.

Today I took it flying. Flew around having great fun doing tricks and such. However after about twenty minutes things took a turn for the downward and I smashed straight into the ground at full tilt. The motor assembly was punched through the nose and into the cockpit.

    Motor was fine though.

Just gotta apply some glue here and there, a bit of duct tape, reglue the magnet mounts and she'll fly again!

So, how long until the entire thing is made of glue and duct tape?

Obviously you should build one originally out of glue and duct tape. And a motor.
