<div class="IPBDescription">while partitioning stuff.</div>I'm on a borrowed computer so I will type this fast. I tried increasing the size of my C: partition but it ook too long and I canceled it. My D: disappeared but I found it with a 3rd party program. Now after having restarted the computer, explorer.exe and some other important stuff crashes efore anything else loads. I want to format the NTFS partition C: but I can't from the cmd window. (run...cmd) I have read that I can't format NTFS partitions with the format C: command. I have tried using my windows xp professional install CD but it freezes up (or at least takes waaay to long) getting past a black screen (before getting to the real install part) with a line of text saying something along the lines of "the installation program is checking the computers hardware configuration) (this is translated from danish, so it might be written differently in your versions).

Also, this was after installing windows SP3. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Thank you guys! (in advance)

How long have you given the Windows install disc? You should give it at least five minutes, but preferably ten just to be sure. It does take very long to boot iirc.

It feels like I gave it like... 10 min. At least.

I got to symantecs partitionmagic program from windows, just before explore.exe crashed. I formatted C:. The problem is still that I can't seem to get to the installation over the CD.

I will let it be, give it an hour to be sure. Then I will sound he alarms...

    Further help is gladly appreciated.

    I bought a new HD.

I installed windows on it, and with it followed Service Pack 1.

I can't install directx 9, so i'm stuck with 8.1. - this has something to do with the installer not finding a windows signiture or something.

I can't play warhammer online because whenever I start it, It loops the auto patcher with 5 secound intervals.

    I am so freaking angry.

How legal is your windows install?

If it is XP have you reached the activation limit? (DID you activate it?)

Put old hard drive in USB enclosure -> Retreive files?
Enclosures cost like nothing as well.

My XP professional is legal as a woman in her fourties, I bought it with the computer years ago.

I gave the sucker a spin of the ol' formatting again and now I can install the various things. I have yet to see if my warhammer "mythic patcher" still will loophole itself, or if that wrenched itself aswell.
