I know im ripping off from Starcraft:Ghost, but how about an entire new suit made for stealth with cloaking?

how about leaving cloaking to the kharaa and keep the teams different?

Yes, since this is a half-rip of the Ghost, stay true to the game it's in, making the teams diffrent.

Adding cloak, bad, why? Why would the marines need it? To sneak up on an onos and get killed after only shooting one clip? Its only use would be an escape use, not very helpful.

There have been two topics in the past about ideas similar to this.

The Active Camouflage Suit (AC Suit). Check it out, as it has quite a few details on the uses, balance, and impact on gameplay.

Another concept was the Phase Suit, but it was geared mostly for a single-unit teleportation suit.

    The original thread and idea:

And the more recent thread claiming to be the 'legitimate implementation of the phase suit':

I think the Stealth Suit could have high-end strategy involved with it. It costs alot of money ($~ to the HA) but can be very useful for sneaking.

Sneaking as a part of starcraft strategy is classic -- the PG outside the hive scenario (you have all played that one before). Usually there is one skulk trying to bhop to the main battle (@ the other hive), leaving one completely undefended. Getting to that hive can be a difficult journey, and could have a huge pay-off if executed properly (PG goes up, marines phase through). This suit would help in the sneaking process... I would give it a thumbs up.

Also, an "invisible army" would be just bomb. Obviously, marines would become visible once they fire.

To counter suit invisilibity, I think a property of the sensory chamber should be that all invisible marines in their area of effect should lost 1/3 of their invisibility per # (1-3) of sensory chambers. This would be a counter strategy to cloaked marines.

No. At that point, we might as well give shotguns and a command center to the Kharaa.

The teams aren't symmetrical and should never be. That's enough argument right there to avoid duplicating the same feature of one team for the other, but if you need a second reason, humans were never meant to play 'ninja'. I like the sense that the Kharaa are more 'solo fighters' and that humans must team up to gain an advantage over them. It's bad enough that humans grab jet packs and try to solo the hive. We don't need to give another excuse to rambo.

yes, ramboing for the aliens is meant to be, not fully, but most of the time.

its not meant to be a marine tatic.

You can't use the 'asymmetical teams' argument for everything. The argument could have been applied to Jetpacks, saying that 'only aliens should get flight and high maneuverability', yet the game is so much more because of them.

If you were to actually compare Cloak to the Active Camouflage Suit proposed in the other thread, you would see that they match up in a similar way to Jetpack / Blink whatever. They would be totally different, and if done well, could make the game be that much greater.

    I really hate this idea.

On a side note, I don't see NS2 being popular at all if more and more technology is added. If anything it would have to be very simple, but still feel futuristic. Obviously charlie and max have their own plan, and I trust them to do what is right.

But if the tech trees get inflated and over complicated, then the player base will end up being a small number of hard core players, which does not = $$.

Look at TF2, its relatively simple, given the complex differences between the classes, each individual class has a relatively small learning curve and is pretty straight-foward. And Tf2 alone is still one of the top sellers on steam. Which is kind of stupid because the orange box is such a great deal.

But NS2 having a mix of RTS in it, is naturally going to make it more complex than almost any other team deathmatch based game. And adding all this extra 'crap' ( My opinion ) isn't going to make it easier for newer players, and won't make it popular.

And in the end, thats what matters, making a great game.
