<div class="IPBDescription">not just whining</div>Hey, this isnt just another post whining about " I WANT IT NOW ", i know it will be done when its done. but can someone either post how many years they think this will take regards to what has been done, and what still needs to be done, or just when they believe it will be done with regards to what?

Thanks all.

im in a gaming lull atm so i need some entertainment.

    Well I believe that the game will come out in the next 2 years <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> .

Well, taking into account recent concept art, the move to the new engine (which from what I understand is nearing basic completion minus graphical sexiness and what not), then there's the models for the game itself, the Lua code for the game, game environments... I imagine the gameplay itself still needs fleshing out and finalization.
    Then there's testing.
If they worked non-stop I'd say 2 years if fairly accurate. Perhaps up to 3 years.

Then again, I'm sure theres a lot they're keeping from us.

it is tru.. it seems like they have done alot, but i suppose the fine tweaking is what will take a bit of time!

i'd like to think 6-12 months - 18 at the most.

a lot of what they are doing is happening in parallel.

the way things are sounding, the engine will be finished in 6 months at most, then there will be all of the usual bug testing
the game play code might be fnished by then too, and the gameplay testing can be peformed while the bugs are being ironed out.
and of course the art work can continue during the whole cycle - they can use place holders until the last few weeks of testing.

I think anything under 1 and a half years is optimistic.

A better prediction would be when do you expect the Tech Release, then ask/predict the release date after that. The TR will be a good indication how far along they are.

    I'm sure it'll be out by the end of 2010, they need money to develop ns2 so they won't hold it forever <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

i have to be optimistic, because i think i won't really care about ns2 in 2 years time. its sad, but i think its true.

Yup, that's me. I LOVE NS to bits (was my favorite online game), nevertheless I don't even know whether I'll still be playing games in 2 years. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" />

I think NS2 must be ready at some point next year, delaying it more would be very frustrating for NS community <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Well every year the NS community, that acually play the game, Shrinks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> . It's sad, and it's true. I still play the game, but find games like garry's mod and TF2 to be better(and I didin't think that last year). If NS2 can't make it under a year and a half I might just give up on it and go play borderlands for the console <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Why don't you just play what you want RIGHT NOW, instead of sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for NS2?

Don't worry, I'm sure word will get out when NS2 is released (via a number of websites devoted to all things gaming, word of mouth, maybe you'll see it beside someones name on your friends list one day, or that delightful RSS feed from NS2 main page), you don't <i>have</i> to check the site every day for the magical words of the gods themselves.

TF2 was mentioned. Do any of you know how long <i>that</i> franchise spent waiting to respawn?

    Exactly.

And that's what I think it all comes down to. The reason that the wait's so long is that you come here every day to check. Don't stress over it so much, and 2 years or whatever it is, won't seem like such a long time.
<a href="http://everything2.com/e2node/A%2520watched%2520pot%2520never%2520boils" target="_blank">"A watched pot never boils."</a> or some such, yeah?

Remember that Unknown Worlds is a full-fledged company now and that they're actually doing it for money. This isn't something that they're doing on their spare time, this is their job. So since it's an actual game and not some mod as a hobby, I expect it to be out probably within 1-2 years. It would be sort of ridiculous if it was more, since this is a multiplayer-only game and not some involved epic MMO.

yes I do I played the original TF and though it was a great HL-1 mod <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />, I do miss how spies could faint death though.

Omg I just thought of something, they are probably gonna hold everything back. Then one day they will post on big bulletin saying IT"S HERE! and storm us with millions of sexy pictures and videos of how awesome the game is. I would be both pissed and super duper ######ing happy!
