Mechanical Aliens

<div class="IPBDescription">The "Ultimate Response" to shaft dwellers</div>I had an idea recently where it would be great to have these little mechanical 'critters' as you may with various abilities for marines. It could have pure scanning abilities, walking mines/bombs, maybe infest/parasite in a similar way Skulks infest buildings [e.g. preliminairy Motion Tracking] or possibly walking turrets/turn turrets when settles down and becomes stationairy [may be AI or commander controlled].

Maybe it could also have purely close combat abilities [f.e. built in chainsaw <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />, or static shield]. These "critters" could be ported in the same way as mines, 2 p. marine and no re-equip except for death. They would also replace the mine slot [not replace mines, just the slot] and be a pick-up like normal mines, ofcourse one ability per critter-drop from commander [drops on the ground would look different like shotgun/HMG/GL].

Again a rudimentairy idea. I would like your ups and downs.

<b>EDIT</b>: This post is working off a wrong perception of the original idea, thinking they were for Aliens, not Marines. Some fun ideas in this post, but no direct relation to original post.<b>/EDIT</b>

    Um.

I'm not sure how to categorize this. While equipment or such for Aliens in intriguing, I'm not clear what you're proposing. If it's just equipment, say so. If it's specific equipment, do that as well. I just got really confused reading your post.

What I <b>think</b> you're talking about is consumable items, similar to a Marine mine, except for aliens. Dropped by something (Alien commander? Gorge?) and then picked up by Aliens. They then deploy them and they provide some function. You list ideas like auto-parasite, which I would agree on if the "critter" as you term it manages to touch a Marine. There's the movable turret idea, which I personally believe is foolish. OCs are there as defensive/turret structure. Plus, if they are made, they would simply build where you drop them. Then there' melee effects, such as growing extra stuff for a period of time.

The last idea is intriguing. A consumable item for the Aliens that benefit directly the Alien. Perhaps faster regen for a short time, or extra health, or adrenaline. These ideas would be kinda cool. Sorta like the tangos for DotA, a small consumable that could get you back into the fight or tip the odds a little if you use it right before an engagement.

The big question is how they are made/dropped. I think you're assuming an Alien Commander drops these. Just making sure.

Overall, kinda weird. I personally really like the consumable booster idea, akin to holding a medpack or catalyst pack for Marines. The others just don't seem to make a huge difference.

At first I though he was talking about new equipment for the marines( Thank you spellman23 for clearing that up). I really don't think the aliens need this, unless it comes out of a new chamber for defence. but maybe the gorge can spit it out to attack the marines(the marines could shoot it if needed to balance I suppose).

i thought it would be for Rines also... I mean that would be a great idea, kind of like an RC track thing that can climb up walls and stuff, that would be great for areas where you dont have derict fire at. Maybe at first its just a scanning device, then you mount a gun on it or a bomb.

hehe a motion bomb set it right above a vent and let an alien come, then BOOM!!! LOL marines revenge from the people who get eaten from above. lol

Heh, I stand corrected. Perhaps on a closer re-read they are for Marines. My bad.

Key points are describing "preliminary Motion Tracking" and describing "2 p. Marine" which I believe translates to 2 per Marine.

    So yeah, I'm stupid.
