So much potential damage per second and its all up to you to make use of it. I think making it unrealiable would kinda decrease that coolness factor.

NS pistol has it all - the power and the looks and has this 'standard-issue'-feel, which fits NS background. I hope that the only change in NS2 will be increasing the polygons!
It would appear the devs have already settled on their weapon sett and alien set for the game, depsite the recent influx of new alien threads.
The current ns pistol does rock, but i do like bad ass revolvers.
I dont think they'l add in a second pistol for any tactical reason. So i thought it could be a reward. e.g if you achieve something in game like say 20 kills you could respawn with a revolver instead. It would nt be a drastically differnt pistol bar the 6 rounds and maybe 10% more damage, but you wouldnt get it because it was much better than the normal pistol but because it was a reward and it looked different
