EVE New PvP

<div class="IPBDescription">Factional Warfare</div>Well I just checked my email and saw that they released another expansion.

This one includes a new zone where peace between all the factions have stopped in the New Eden and everybody is fighting. So FFA'ish Pvp.

Supposedly even novice pilots can fight too. hahaha..yeah right. What is a novice in a cheap frigate/cruiser going to do to ANYBODY?

Anyways, what are the fellow EVE players thoughts about this?

Oh yeah, and I guess you can hold planets/constellations or whatever it is.

I saw BoB/GoonSwarm already have everything thanks to GMs giving them everything which is one reason why I left the game.

The answer to this question is GoonSwarm's dominance of the game, pretty much. Their tactics consist entirely of swarms of cheap ships. And I don't think the admins give them everything but then again I never got into EvE tha much.

It's pretty fun, just you have to have good standings with the faction you intend to fight for, which can become a problem if you were a mission runner and wish to work for another factions (I ran lvl 4 amarr missions, and now am trying to fight for minimatar. The problem is that through all those missions my standings to minimatar republic got down to -2.5). The way the whole faction warfare thing actually plays out is fleets of 20 all the way to 100 people form together and go looking for the opposing faction fleet (which is normally only a system or so away). Basically it's pug-fleet pvp.

<!--quoteo(post=1682589:date=Jul 5 2008, 12:41 PM:name=Paranoia2MB)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Paranoia2MB @ Jul 5 2008, 12:41 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1682589"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Supposedly even novice pilots can fight too. hahaha..yeah right. This is entirely wrong. Since your fleets chances against the other fleet are not easy to work-out (They might have twice as many people as you) most people only fly inexpensive ships. Infact, most of the pug-fleets are made of cruisers and below. One noob in a destroyer might not be much, but 20 noobs in destroyers can tear apart BC and BS in seconds (Isk/damage ratio of destroyers is awesome, in some cases they can out-dps a cruiser which costs 10x as much).

I don't even understand what you are trying to say here. Are you accusing goonswarm of being helped by GMs? You don't even know the actual controversy do you?

Think it was BoB, not GS. Been a while since I've actually played.

But from all I've read and heard about that is that certain group(s) have been getting assistance by GMs. IE: Blueprints is a good simple one to start off with.

Crap been around for a loooooooooong time hasn't it though?

The whole situation had a lot of confusion around it. Honestly, what really went on was that alot of GMs were in BoB, and knew certain other members personally. This allowed them to get their petitions answered instantly as opposed to other people who had to wait in the queue. Also supposedly they got ship reimbursements easier. Somewhere down the line there was accusations of one of the GMs spawning ship BPOs in somebodies hangar, I think the guy got fired after the arguement.

Anyway, most people (purposefully) blow it out of proportion saying the CCP was spawning tons of free stuff for BoB etc etc. Most of which wasn't true. Most people wanted to believe it though, because noone really like BoB.

And something to keep in mind, more GMs and Devs has alts in GS then in BoB.

You seem to know sooo much.

Jee, are you one of those devs/gms or in either Gs or Bobby? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
    lol

Anyways, I'd kinda like to come back. Just the whole freelancing and solo play thing sucks haha. And I want to be in a good corp. I don't mind helping out a new corp with mining and what not since I have an alt miner, but yeaaah. I just want a fun corp to be with.

I've thought about making my own, but it wouldn't be anything special. lol

Maybe a merc corp that uses the fast and small ships with a couple of big ships and help harrass with other corps haha.

    <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lerk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::lerk::" border="0" alt="lerk.gif" /> frigate ftw. haha

I only played for a little while and felt that to have fun you needed to grind a bunch of low level until your skills were high enough and you have enough capital to replace ships and weapons.

Is it really worth it to play? Maybe I just fail at finding the right corp.

Or maybe the right corp just fails at recruiting.

I'm 99% sure it's impossible to grind in EvE. Your skills progress at the same rate whether you're playing or not playing; every levels at the same speed and grinding won't help one bit.

Grinding for moneys is still grind though, so without a corp, yeah, he's screwed.
  • Nil_IQNil_IQ Join Date: 2003-04-15 Member: 15520Members
Eve <i>does</i> have a grind, its simply one that is unaffected by how much time is actually spent at the keyboard. Other than that, you just grind for moneyz.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
Yeah, the tricky part would be the money. You need to have backup capital to recover from losing your ship.

yeah, you can't grind levels per se, but almost everything else is a grind... grinding via mining, grinding pirate npcs, grinding faction missions...

the best way to look at EVE is as a crazy souped up IRC client. If you're not playing with a good group of people who you can chat with for hours, it would be mind-numbing. There's no way to even pretend things like mining are fun or interesting if you have no one to talk to or watch your back and hang out with.
  • XythXyth Avatar Join Date: 2003-11-04 Member: 22312Members
Grinding for money at low levels isn't even that bad. A lucky drop from an NPC will replace your frigate 5x over. Or with the right corp, an experienced player can easily bank-roll you for 15 million, which to them is just pennies but is enough to buy everything you have 100x over.

It's really late game (BS+ area) that the grind gets annoying, you really never have to even enter that level of stuff though. Frigates and cruisers (and the occasional BC) are the PvP ships of choice and are pretty cheap, even if you are grinding by yourself.

    heh. totally.

I hung around the noob corp and we had some cool moments. One time this guy tried to trick people into attacking him in high security. We had 7 ships circling him, just waiting for the first shots to fly 'cause he was claiming he'd take us all in his corvette. Or the mining runs every now and then.

I think the other issue is I don't have huge loads of time to dedicate to chatting and getting to know the other players. Or even to schedule properly my skill leveling. I prefer stuff I can pick up in a moment and drop in a moment, which is why I stay away from MMO in general. Unless they're free, like Puzzle Pirates.

I fail royally at EVE. Every time I try to give it a shot, I fail harder than the last. This time, it took me less than two hours to get frustrated and /quit. Signed up for the 14 days free they're offering to get you to try it again, took about an hour messing around in my hangar trying to remember how to play, how to outfit my ship, etc. Finally I take a really simple level 1 mission to see if I can remember how to kill anything. I happened to be in low-sec space. warped away from the station and got instagibbed by a player. Remembered, "Oh yeah, that's why I never subscribe to this game!" I am not QQing, I am not saying the game sucks... I'm saying the fun and coolness factors are FAR overshadowed by the frustration.

The #1 cure eh? EvE needs a phonebook so people can go look up the address of a doctor. He'll prescribe the cure.

Dont go to low sec. Its not that hard to avoid it. I cant see why anybody would get frustrated dying in a tech 1 ship. A 200k frigate is nothing. Losing 250mil battleship might be a little bit tougher on the wallet. Also insurance covers 100% of tech 1 ships except for the modules.

    As for FW...
Its just pvp without the 0.0 politics. If you just want to shoot and not deal with POS then its probably for you.

Paranoia2MB somebody with 1 million skill points which is like a few weeks can make somebody with 20million useless. Its called electronic warfare. Slow your opponent to a snail, make him unable to warp away or make him lose his lock capability making him a expensive paper weight. Sure you cant solo but EVE is not a solo pvp game.
