Help?
So whenever I try to come here firefox gives me an error message saying the server could not be found.
I tried in IE and a similar thing happens. Same thing for other computers.

If I turn on my college proxy though (the proxy server for my college) it works just fine. I only get the problem when I try to go straight to here without without hopping through the college network...

Any idea what the problem could be or more importantly, any advice to fix it?

My ISP is Comcast, if that matters.

Try doing a traceroute and pasting the result. Try doing an nslookup and pasting the result. How long has the problem persisted?

I just did a traceroute, it managed to get to the server so I tried without the proxy and it's working now. Very weird. Thanks anyways. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Uhh.. So it was working last night, and is once again not working.

The tracert and nslookup didn't really tell anything interesting, but here they are:

I'd say this looks like DNS trouble, but I had better hand this over to more knowledgeable people from here. Again, though, how long has this problem persisted? Days? Weeks?

Edit: Try this link (uses unknownworlds.com's IP address, rather than the domain name). Does that work?

    that would be my thought.

if the IP works and the URL does not, then ###### out your ISP for having a shoddy DNS, or just go use a free one.

I mean, it's either a routing problem or a DNS issue, right? And considering the tracert doesn't even resolve the domain name, that does make the DNS issue rather likely. Anyway, try the IP. And tell us how long the issue has persisted, DNS issues do occur, but are usually temporary.

This started yesterday morning, seemed to be resolved last night, and then this morning it doesn't work again...

And now it does, but it seems sort of odd... Though the nslookup looks like that for everything (google.com, facebook.com) just with their respective IP and domain ni the "Non-authoritative answer" portion... The first part is the same for all.

192.168.15.1 is the address of my router, if that matters.

    ....

that would be 3 "n"s btw.

so yah, next time it stops working, try getting in via the IP directly.

    cnonm nom nom nom...

My nslookup looks like yours does, only with a server name in my case (and of course a different server IP), and without "can't find server name etc." and "default servers are not available."

In short, looks like you had DNS trouble. As a stopgap measure, substitute the IP for the domain name (though you'll also have to do that for every link you follow - good luck posting anything that way). As mentioned before, DNS trouble is often temporary, so the problem might get resolved soon. If it persists, contact your ISP or network administrator, as the problem seems to be on their end.

Edit: Working on a possible better stopgap measure, stand by.

My school proxy has been resolving fine the whole time so it's an effective "stopgap solution". Thanks for the info guys, if this keeps happening I guess I get to call comcast. :/

Well, I couldn't get this to work for myself (possibly because my DNS server is working correctly, possibly because Windows is a bit buggy when it comes to the hosts file), but here's my suggestion: Add the following line to your hosts file:

    70.84.64.218 unknownworlds.com

I won't be any more specific than that. It involves mucking about with system files. Either do it if you know how, Google your way to a guide ("hosts <operating system>" should work) or let it be. Apart from my other advice, that's all I can do for you, I'm afraid.
