Best MMORPG I have ever played and best community I have ever seen
For those that knew Ryzom, if you go back to the official site, there is a big news ! They are announcing its return ! I really hope it is true and not just someone who hacked their site.
This is the best MMORPG I have ever played, that I have loved the most. Since it was announced dead, I had never found anything like it that satisfies me.
What I loved the most about it :
- best community in/out game I have ever seen
- total freedom on what you want to do and progress
- you can gather ALL skills and not just those related to your race
I would gladly drop LOTR to get back to it. I am finding it a bit boring. Didn't liked WOW. Got bored playing EQ2.

Anyway, what makes Ryzom stand out? Innovative combat?
If you had answered rechts, I would have laughed.

Basicalyl as you leveled up your skill groups you gained access to more and more 'blocks' (as well as better base stats for your self). The blocks would then be used to build abilities the way yuo wanted.
Each block has a cost, either in HP/SP/AP/Chance to succeed/what ever. You could counter balance costs by weakening a different part of the spell, or paying the cost some other way.
So, you could make a standard Heal spell, heals one person, at range, for a decent amount, and costs SP.
Now you could shorten the range, but up the power, and have it still cost the same amount.
Or you could make it drain HP instead of SP (HP was worth more then SP iirc).
All different things.
It was a great concept, but from what I remember of it, it was still relatively lackluster in a few respects:
1) Lack of polish, as with most MMOs that don't make it, the game just didn't really feel smooth at points.
2) The block system wasn't nearly as open ended as I would have wanted. It became one of those flavor of the month deals where EVERYONE crafts their spells exactly the same b/c doing it some other way was just silly.
It also had some interesting stuff added a good bit after launch I never poked at (user create dungeons and strange things like that). There were a bunch of interesting ideas in it, but again, just never really seemed to polish them off to make them really GOOD.
There was also the problem that it got passed from company to company as each one failed/gave up on it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Oh yeah I had forgotten about that. I had only played the beta(while the mage was OP and could power level like nobodies' business). I never did try out the official version. I doubt my character, Ami, is still there though.
