Custom Gamemode: Creeping Darkness/Retribution

This stems from the old <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=103618&hl=darkness" target="_blank">Atmosphere vs. Gameplay</a> thread. <b>psykoman</b> suggested an idea that, while it may be a bit too atmospheric to be included in NS2 core, would make an excellent lua mod. The basic idea is that DI chokes out light and makes rooms that are infested significantly darker, much darker than core NS2 DI.<ul><li> No Commanders</li><li> No Resources, just rationing</li><li> Tech is locked mid tier for both Kharaa and Marines</li><li> Marines must kill hive(reduced health)</li><li> Kharaa must kill IPs and TF</li><li> No structures heal/can be repaired
- Marine equipment; All equipment is lost upon death, but reupgradable from armory<ul><li> 1 flamethrower or 1 GL attachment for LMG</li><li> 2 welders</li><li> 1 shotgun with limited flechette rounds</li><li> 1 weldbot that provides ammo, welding, and equipment(as available)</li><li> 1 pack of flares or 1 pack of mines</li><li> squad respawning</li><li> armor 1, weps 2</li></ul>- TSA MS<ul><li> 4 turrets</li><li> 1 TF</li><li> 2 IPs</li><li> 1 armory</li><li> 1 armslab</li></ul>- Kharaa allowed lifeforms<ul><li> max 3 gorges</li><li> max 3 lerks</li><li> double adren cost bilebomb, umbra, and leap</li><li> gorge can build one building each (OC or chamber of choice)</li><li> upgrades unchained from chambers, each lifeform can pick 2 upgrades(1 each from 2 of the 3 chambers)</li></ul>- Kharaa Hive<ul><li> 1 Hive</li><li> 4 OCs</li><li> 1 MC</li><li> 1 SC</li></ul></li></ul>Edit:
<b>Storyline:</b>
A battle has been fought and each side is on the edge of victory.

The commander has been killed, but the marines possess the technology and the willpower for a last effort push on the hive. They have the resolve to eradicate the kharaa scourge from the ship and revenge their fallen commander.

The Kharaa have struck a blow at the head of the TSA snake, but it wriggles and thrashes; threatening to destroy the new home they've created. Their own leader is dead and the infestation grows rampantly, but uncontrolled. It will need much help to consume the remaining body of the snake.

    Interesting.

    So, instead of a timer, the DI slowly progresses until the Marines pretty much have to lose due to the DI everywhere?

    That's why there's a choice of flamethrower or GL attachment. Flamethrower is to remove infestation to buy more time. The GL attachment would be used on offense.

    Good, but not quite -

    <b>Anytime's scenario generator:</b>

    Marine base down, equipment salvaged: (every player can carry exactly one; n = marine player #)
    1/4n shoguns
    1/4n welders
    1/4n portable sentries
    1/4n flamethrowers
    ---
    n portable medpacks, many more scattered around the map along with ammo. Other equipment can also be salvaged

    All alien players have respawn, but spawn as unupgraded skulks. The hive is weakened.

    Victory for the marines:
    Be the last to survive AND/OR Take down the alien hive AND/OR Reach an objective

    Victory for aliens:
    Almost guaranteed <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    Don't lose the hive/let marines accomplish objective
