<div class="IPBDescription">New web browser MMORPG</div>So, <a href="http://www.estiah.com/" target="_blank">Estiah</a> is a new web game that bills itself as a web browser MMORPG. No fees anywhere (not even an option to 'buy' extras for your character... no ads... I don't even think there's a 'donate' link anywhere... no clue what their business model is. I think it's just made by some peeps for fun and they're not looking to make money offa it... but I digress). You basically just log on for a few minutes every day, spend your action points fighting monsters or exploring dungeons or fighting players or gathering resources or what have you, you level up, you can buy new gear with your in-game golds, yada yada, all the stuff you'd expect to do in an MMORPG. you can specialize via classes as you level up. It's surprisingly addictive.

I'm only level 4 so far, about to hit level 5. just found it yesterday. Give it a go if you want and ask me if you have any questions. Feel free to use my <a href="http://www.estiah.com/user/register/index/id/10798" target="_blank">link</a> to sign up - or don't, since I know referral links are oh so shunned here. I think all it would do is give me points toward one in-game skill.

So, it's...Like every other web browser MMORPG? I'm gonna try it out anyways, but I don't think anything for me will be able to top Kingdom of Loathing.

well, it has a pretty robust combat system, but I couldn't tell you if it's anything like other web browser RPGs because I haven't played many =P now I have to give Kingdom of Loathing a try... looks pretty hilarious

    yah, umm.

No control over combat == not particularly interesting.

    go play KoL, it is better <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I mean, your game is wonderfully polished and very well developed and solid and all that.

    Just not all that fun <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

So it's like Runescape except worse?

well, you have control over combat in that you choose what charms to bring into battle. the random element is just what order they're used in. in the end, it's not much less control than when you click 'fight' in some other game and you can hit or miss or crit. in this game you just choose whether to take a more offensive or defensive loadout, whether to go for armor piercing or straight-up damage, whether to go for physical or magical damage, focus fire, etc.

I did try KoL - it is quite amusing and I will probably keep playing, but I don't think there's as much depth there, even if there is plenty of humor =P

if I'm the only one who finds it fun and addictive, so be it =P

No depth to Kingdom of Loathing? There's a whole lot to do in it. Even though you end up essentially playing the same game over and over, the fact that you get to keep a skill every time and switch classes makes for quite interesting gameplay. I often forget to do stuff until later than I should because there's so much to keep track of. Frequent switching of equipment and familiar, along with choosing skills to use during combat, make for a fairly diverse combat system. Anyone that's just jumping into it, feel free to message me, username lostcalpolydude, and I'll send you some stuff to get started along with giving plenty of advice. (I spend way too much time on the KoL forum, so I know the details for the majority of the mechanics in that game.)

Man... KoL. I haven't played it since pre13NS. And that was funny... considering I donated $5 and the next month I quit the game. =/

    Web-Based MMORPG... Nothing sounds like it could be less fun. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    'web-browser' rpg?
    What does that mean?

Ultimately, the world wide web/inter-net, will become obselete (,or so an article I read in the 'green-guide' says). Programs similar to 'second life', will become the way in wich the online community, i.e. globe, interact, shop, browse, etc.

Entire virtual worlds will come into existence, leaving the 'real world' behind us.. We've all seen it in some form of another, and game-hackers will be *DELETED*.

A browser based RPG is just that, and RPG that you play from a browser instead of downloading and installing a client.

oh and about the 'future' internet:
    BUAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH

I love futurists, they make me laugh. Hell the name makes me laugh <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> (Futurists are those people that make a living off of BSing about what they think the future will hold)

The concept of VR replacing computers is rather dumb when you really start thinking about it (kinda like the idea of replacing our current UIs with totally touch/gesture based ones)

ACTUALLY, in the future, the WWW won't be there in the form we know it, but not because it has been replaced with Second Life. More likely, it'll be gone because most people will only have a "basic" internet connection rather than a "premium" or "unlimited" one, and therefore will only be able to browse the sites that buy their way into the ISPs' "basic" package. Smaller sites that can't shell out that kind of cash will simply cease to exist because hardly anyone can visit them.

Won't the lining up of earth/sun/big-black-hole-in-center-of-milkyway on 21th of 2012 generate a big pulse of WTFPWN and fry the internet?

Also does this have graphics or is it text based...

limited graphics. mostly card based. it's Magic: The Gathering-like in that you choose a set of cards to be your loadout and unleash them essentially randomly at mobs/other players. so choosing the right cards is vital.
