ES 3.0 has been released!
ES 3.0 has been released and it looks and plays like an ocean of win.
The gameplay has now been streamlined and directed. Each map consists of two ships or stations, one for each team, attacking each other. Each ship is protected by three smaller corvettes. During the first phase you must shoot and destroy these corvettes with any ships (though clearly bombers are superior). When you manage to shoot down all corvettes the second phase begins, in which the team who killed the corvettes can board the enemy ship and fight on foot. Capturing points in the enemy ship provides important advantages. Taking down the shields is most important because it will allow your ship and bombers to do maximal damage to the enemy ship. Capturing weapons will stop the enemy capitol ship from firing on you. Capturing the hangar will freeze the reinforcement timer. When the timer for the attack runs out (if it runs out) then the corvettes return and it's back to phase one again.
This game is infinitely more well-made and polished then the game we saw for version 1.0, and there is no reason why you shouldn't install and play the game right now.

likewise. i wasnt too impressed with the earlier versions anyways.
I'll third that, the animations make it look too amateur. The terrible music didn't help either.
I like the concept though.
Why is it fileplanet only? I have an account but torrents are cheap.
Actually I think the reason is that making mods is hard and making good mods is harder. I know ES has the first bit down; we'll see if they're got the second worked out.
Although the mod looks very interesting (despite the loller animations) and I'd like to try it out, there is no torrent and only one download link on their page, where you even have to register (which I won't).
Wtf is wrong with those people?
They have no reason at all to complain, if they can't even distribute their mod properly.
Edit: Wow, after trying google I even have to realize that it's fileplanet exclusive.
What a joke...
Here's one more player they won't see.

If you're wondering whether to give ES 3.0 a shot, read this: Moddb Preview (with undoctored in-game v3.0 footage)
and listen to this: Moddb Podcast
Should be done downloading by then... If I can, I'll be there.
I tried it and it seems to be a lot of fun. sorta a cross between x-wing and battlefield 2142. flying the ships seems a little clunky but maybe I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. the animations aren't the mod's strong suit but it feels fun and somewhat unique to play.

What, you have some problem with Fileplanet or something? In my experience it is one of the fastest free download sites around, and it has tons of files.
Cya ingame!
i think the game could use some more polish in areas, but it can be pretty fun
Space Combat is still awkward, FPS combat is somewhat fun... Though I think they changed the weapons I actually liked..
Shooting Napalm at a 45 degree angle and then lighting it up midair is pretty sweet though.

My big complaint: There's just not nearly enough ground combat. The space combat isn't fun and that's most of the game.
I dislike being treated like a second class citizen for not shelling out money to download a file. Their business model is archaic and redundant given the practicality and scalability of bittorrent.

Rather well said. When downloading things like this I do tend to prefer the reliability of an http download.
Fileplanet sucks though. No one should use it to host files. It reduces the availability of your product by restricting the distribution, either my registered people, or by restricting it to those who are patient enough!
It might be great for you in your fancyland America, but here it's site is slow to load, requires me to navigate through a bunch of hoops to log in (due to their shoddy interface and dodge all the sign up ads) and then wait in a queue for 20 minutes and then get horrid speeds.
I can usually quickly go to ausgamers.com and pick up files I want there without logging in with good speed unless they are FILE PAINET EXCLUSIVE which is pretty dumb because it hurts communities that aren't in AMERICA and increases wait times on fileplanet to ridiculous levels.

Just to chime in, in the UK FilePlanet's speeds are mediocre at best.
I don't mind mods doing FP exclusives (since in exchange they do get advertised, which is beneficial to the playerbase and means less empty servers) as long as it only lasts a day at most.
It's quite simple - the industry should not be rewarded for pulling things like this, same as the debates on many, many other topics. Less carrots, more sticks.
