Microphone volume boosting

Is there any way to boost the microphone volume over the limits that the volume slider and boost option give? For some reason my microphone is very quiet and I can't get enough of volume out of it even if I use all the windows boosts and hl boosts. Ventrilo works fine as long as I've got all the boosts on. The sound quality seems to be fine, no matter the boosts.

    Make sure the volume is maxed in the microphone settings in Windows. That is how I fixed my mic volume problem.

    2 things:
    1) make sure you have the +20 dB boost box ticked (windows)
    2) if you have soundcard software installed double check it, often times this software will override other settings.
