Need help with error in all source games that makes my microphone sound horrible!

exec: couldn't exec userconfig.cfg????????
Dozens of time I have tried correcting my microphone, sometime I have even got it working for a one round on a game. But then moments later it will screw up again! The mic is fine, it sounds great when using other recording software. But as soon as I get it onto a source game it sounds like a wind tunnel gone wrong!

I have checked the console and I get this error every time I try and change the voice settings:

exec: couldn't exec userconfig.cfg
Host_WriteConfiguration: Wrote cfg/config.cfg
Unknown command "cl_crosshairscale"

Also everything goes back to full volume, with mic boost on, after I have exited the voice settings.

So far I have noticed this happen in CS:S and TF2.

I was wondering if anyone was having this problem too? And what the solution might be...?

Just an example, keep searching until you find something more related to your problem.

You probably should had posted this in either the "technical" forum or at steampowered forums from the start.

Those errors you're getting don't mean anything. Try disabling mic boost in the HL voice comms options?

Yeah I have done that, I have also set everything to a lower volume. But as soon as I change them and exit the voice settings they all go back up to full. And thouse errors appear in the developer console. So they must mean something.

...I don't even have HL installed...

Oh wait, I just got a reply from steam... This is the solution apparently...
