<div class="IPBDescription">So er .. yeh ?</div>Any update on the test release ? , been awhile since i last looked at ns2 since sometime early last year and not much has changed by looks of it ;<. Any word on the NS2TR ?
Yeh but that doesnt say much about what i asked , i asked whats going on with it i.e How far off / when / how much content is actually done that is "Not" Concept.
We don't have a release date for the 2TR at this point. We have several texture/prop sets in production at the moment, some of which have been released for testing with the 2TR alpha.
i'm so down to even pay to beta test this like 10 bucks, and then if the final realease comes out pay 10 bucks more! assuming its 20 bucks to begin with.

I'm sure they have a fairly functional build of some description by now, but it's doubtful that pure 'functionality' is what they intend for with the NS2TR. I'd imagine they'd be looking for a release that 'tells the NS story' as well as generally conveying the mechanics of the game.

Custom textures and prop models aren't an absolute necessity in order to get a working map, but they will probably be in the TR because otherwise even though it will run like NS, it won't feel like NS.
That's what I was trying to say before with the 'NS story' remark. If they released anything that wasn't 'up to par' publically, whether it was intended purely for experimental or alpha purposes is irrelevant, it will be taken as a measure of the quality of the final release.

The alpha TR's (I call them AR as in art release <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> ) were just a test to see what we as community mappers could do with their textures and props. Also the texture/prop naming consistency was different between the two released versions. So it is very likely that we have to retexture areas that we textured with alpha 1 and 2.
They just wanted to see what could be done with the released artwork, nothing more. I myself have already stopped working with the artwork and have switched to HL2 dev textures (also nicer for lighting the map, you can really see what the lights are doing with these textures). Texturing and adding detail will be the final step (I don't want to keep retexturing if the devs change some names <img src="http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/smileys/rolleyes.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" /> )

It's a community release aimed towards mappers and artists.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The idea is that the technology release will simulate all aspects of the game without making the game itself playable. At the moment a certain amount of community members have access to helping develop the NS2TR in to a fully functionable build.
